I would hang the rod at the highest point that intersects the room and betone the window trim on bother sides of each window. I would keep blinds or replace with blinds too. Similar color to the wall color. NOT grommet drapery panels. Warm up the rooms with much larger area rugs.

Find a spot for the glossy clock where it won't show a glare or reflection.

Interesting layout of area. Where is the kitchen and the TV?

I'd hang the curtains as high as possible (difficult to show in your pictures). Natural fibre/bamboo roman shades with curtains. I'd also lower the picture above the sofa and place the 2 club chairs to face the sofa.

Same window treatment in the dining room. Also suggest you replace the clock with wall art.
