Design help** remodeling kitchen breakfast area

2 months ago

Hello, I need help with remodeling and updating our kitchen breakfast area. This is right off our kitchen and our little family uses this for more than breakfast, most meals actually! I just took down wallpaper and I'm wanting to paint. It's an awkward space with a large window and sill. I'd like to keep the oval table and lighting. We plan on remodeling the kitchen counters and backsplash but not yet..just starting part of the process. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    I love your light fixture. I'd consider a bamboo or wood blind in the window to bring in some warmth and texture. You have a wonderful wall to either add a large piece of art or possibly a gallery wall. What colors do you like to use in the rest of the house? What do you consider to be your style? I would store the placemats when not in use but consider a simple centerpiece. Perhaps a pretty bowl with succulents or a small floral arrangement?

    Thank you! I like modern but also midcentury modern pieces. My home is neutral colors but I have blush, blues, browns, rust colors too. I want it to be warm and cheerful:)

    I don't see where the remodeling comes in. Sounds like you just want a little redecoration—to paint, pick some window treatments, and choose a rug.

    I love what celery did. you can add in blush tones if you like.

    I'd actually lose the mini blinds and do a woven wood or roman blind;

    or maybe a silouette type of blind

    diff chairs, a rug, your current light is a little too high and it's off center on the table

    kitchen window seat ideas

    You have a ton of options here! it's a great space. make sure to do a nice piece of art on that wall when you're done painting.

    (and again, that light is hung too high..should be 36" from the top of the table to the bottom of the light)

    Thank you for all of your help! And for pointing out our light is too high :)

    Has your kitchen already been remodeled? I appears the 'island' is a remodel of what was once a peninsula that was remodeled so the PO could have a bench seat ....Perhaps before you get too far you need to think about if that awkward island is placed properly. You don't seem to be that interested in the window seat. Does this have to be the main eating area? If there is a dining room you may be better served expanding the kitchen, returning the peninsula and putting in counter breakfast seating.

    I don't think it's been remodeled before. I can give you another picture to see the whole layout. You are right, I don't know what to do with the window seat- it's not comfortable to sit on. I do have a more formal dining room, but we eat most meals here. I am open to your idea though! Are you able to visually show me what you are thinking? The lighting is not in the right place for the table either. We can have that moved before we paint.

    How about an upholstered dining sofa on that wall with art above it, either one large piece or smaller framed art you love? This dining bench is a bit elaborate but you can find simpler ones on Wayfair. If you have to recenter your great lighting, hang it lower next time. Standard advice is 30"-36" from table surface. I kind of like the print curtains in this photo and/or bamboo shades as others suggested.
