paint suggestions please!

Hello!

I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure out paint in our new home.

Our trim/wainscotting and mouldings are all one colour throughout the house - a warm creamy colour that can lean yellow in some light. It’s pretty for sure and it would be an absolute fortune to repaint. The wall colour however is a very heavy beige. It’s nice with the trim but it’s too heavy for my taste. I need a paint colour for our living room and hallway that can sit with this trim! I’ve tried so many - pale oak, classic grey, Swiss coffee…so far all have fallen so flat and white.

I have the paint code for the custom colour on the trim - it’s red/black/yellow. I’m really struggling to find something to work with this.

Suggestions on colour or how to approach this are very welcome!

My suggestion is to paint the walls, beams, ceiling the same color as the wainscoting. All will work with the stone fireplace.

We need more help to be specific. We can all see that your trim is creamy, but we need to know exactly how creamy it is and how dark it is.

oncape is right that the easy answer is to use the same color on the walls, trim and ceiling.

However, if you want other suggestions, not just the easy button, we will need you to find the closest match to one of the manufacturer colors (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Behr . . . )

If you take a sample of the current color to a paint store they should be able to tell you the closest color in their brand to your color. It would also help if we knew the current color of the walls. They may be able to tell you the LAB or LCH values of the sample that they are color matching. They don't share the LAB or LCH values of their own colors.

Another alternative that is not too expensive is to buy a color matching tool.

Another vote for using the trim color on the walls and ceiling, specially if you have the paint formula. The color will look slightly different due to being on different planes and due to the paint finish you choose.

I like matte for walls and flat for ceiling.

My first thought was well was to paint the walls and ceiling the same color as the trim. Your home is beautiful and has a lot of great visual accents between the stone, beams, wainscot, and wood. You don't really need the trim color as an accent. These other elements provide plenty of accent in your space.
