Hmm, that’s tricky if there’s nowhere else to put the TV. My initial thought is that the TV and its stand are so much darker than everything else in the room, even more so now with the new rug. I wonder if it might help if you had end tables in a dark wood similar to the TV stand?

Just an idea (maybe not a good one), but you could put the TV on the wall between the glass door and the window. And then depending on how important TV watching is, you could put the couch where the green chair is (the one that you see the back of in the room) and the other chairs across from it.

Looks like this is one of those situations where the only obvious place is over the fireplace. If you are in the camp that thinks the tv is too high there, consider reworking your mantel, lowering it, and building out bookshelves to either side at the same height for a craftsman feel. IDK what the style of architecture the house conforms to but that sort of lower mantel and shelves is seen in new builds of uncertain or hybrid styles where I live.

I am not opposed to the TV above the fireplace, but not adverse to a project. I just laid the new rug down yesterday and the white tables work really well with it, so I was thinking of painting the TV stand white and perhaps lining the glass doors with something to hide the what is on the shelves in the cabinet. What do you think of these ideas? Do you think lowering the TV to rest on the cabinet would be an improvement? I definitely like built in shelving on either side.

I think painting the tv stand white will not help the situation, it will jist create a different kind of awkward problem. Looking at your photo I see the window to the left of the fireplace is shorter than the one on the adjacent wall, so shelving that runs all the way to the end of the window (or even to the wall) would give an architectural reason for the size difference, whichwould be a plus. Is there a similar window to the right of the fireplace?

Some examples.., these are the first things that came up, some are obviously fancier or more involved, but they are all basically a lower fireplace surround and mantel assembly with shelves oneither side and windows above the shelves.

below, you can see how the length of the windows dictates the height of storage cabs underneath. Your windows are high enough that a lowered mantel and shelving woulf fit nicely below them and lookingentional.

Pretty sure theres a tv behind those doors…no need to hide it imo, everybody has one 🤷‍♀️

The big difference between the kswl examples and your room is that hers all have walls at the ends, kind of ”containing” the builtins. You have a window that would be next to one end, and ?? on the other side. Not sure if that would work well? Hard to tell without seeing that whole wall.

Lovely house! And one that would accomodate a craftsman-ish built in very well. There is a wall to the left of the fireplace that the shelves could run into. Sue’s concern is the reason I was curious to know if the right side has a companion window and what is beyond it.

Unfortunately only one window flanks the fireplace..

The next time I am there I will take pictures of the entire room and head on shots of each wall.

Love your house! I agree that a picture of the whole room would be helpful, you might be able to rearrange the furniture with a new tv placement that looks more cohesive.

I would hang the tv above the fireplace, and do something interesting and pretty in that corner.

Positioning the TV above the fireplace opens up quite a few options for arranging the sofa and chairs.

I agree; I was under the impression that you didn’t want to do that, but that’s what I think I would do if it were my house.
