This project build was completed last year and we are just starting to get going with planting, decorating etc after winter. We have some low drift roses planted just outside, but need to fence the pup out since she loves to dig in the planting beds.

I remember this project from when you were starting to plan it. It looks great!! I wouldn't add anything to it for now. Maybe save the space for that random "perfect" find rather than go hunting for something to fill space. Were you still thinking of adding in some curtians, or was that something or someone else I'm recalling?

I would not call attention to the beam. It is a structural element that is quietly doing its job and doesn't need to be tarted up!

My dogs destroy plants by jumping into them to catch lizards ... I'm in FL so lots of little lizards! I gave up on pretty plants inside the fenced dog area.

I love your new room. Nothing else for the beam is needed. I'd plant a tree outside the window...something that blooms and offers some shade.

The beam is fine as is and let the outside draw the eye. Sounds like you are also looking for decor ideas, but not sure that your furniture will suit farmhouse. What about earthy casual.

Would you be interested in exchanging the seating area with dining to enjoy better views of the garden, as I’m sure you’ll be sitting there the most. A larger, more functional table would be a great addition at some point and look to complement your seating area. You’ll probably identify other items over the summer, like lighting, plants, and some storage.

Regarding landscaping, suggest heading to a nursery and advise your soil type, dog needs, budget, your ideas + maintenance commitment.

Incising quotations on architectural elements may make sense on/in public buildings — government offices, libraries, theatres, museums, houses of worship. On the inside of a porch beam, or a wall inside a private home? Only if it's framable, hangable, and easily removable, like an embroidery sampler or a poster. My advice is to leave your poor, innocent beam alone to do its job, unsung, yet daily appreciated for its silent service.

Ok, the beam stays bare! We are out there every minute that the weather allows. The rain blows in the empty (west) side of the porch; anything to the right of the rug gets wet if it rains hard and is windy.

It looks great! The spectacular view carries a lot of visual weight, you may want to consider anchoring the interior a little more to make it more cohesive with the porch finishes and the exterior elements. Light is bouncing off of the glass tabletops and creating some glare - wood tops would cut that and relate to the trees, the hardscape and some of the furniture. Indoor plants can also help extend your view. I like the way your rug and some chair cushions tie with the blue building, the pillow covers seem less cohesive. Either way, thanks for showing us how it turned out!

Oh it turned out just wonderfully! I remember when you were planning this porch, and I'm so glad it has met your expectations. The beam needs nothing. The view is splendid!

There is a bit of a disconnect between the pastel tones of the dining area and the more saturated colors of the seating area. You might want to address that, but if the space works for you as is, then so be it!
