This reminded me of how much I enjoyed the Bill Cunningham NYT street fashion photos. I can't believe he's been gone almost ten years.

Fun, but when did Easter become Halloween?

So fun! I love all of the color and creativity.

Ded, that was my thought exactly... all costumes, just a few actual outfits. When we lived in Manhattan in the 80’s and earl 90’s we attended Brick Church on Park Ave (for their children’s programs) and Easter there was a picture of ladies in gorgeous pastel silk suits and hats. DD and I sometimes wore matching Laura Ashley dresses with straw boaters. We had brunch after church at the Essex House on CPS, where they had a special kids’ room with kid food staffed by actors in Alice in Wonderland costumes. DH and I enjoyed a lovely grown up meal in peace 😎 …It was a different time

Hahaha! I can't help but be reminded of some fellow at work, new to the area, who went to NYC for the Easter Parade and complained there was no parade...only people wandering around in funny hats and outfits!!

I’ve never heard of this! It looks like so much fun. It amazes me how creative people can be.

Easter is always a time for dress up and that can be so pretty. But the exuberance and creativity of NYC's Easter Parade is singular. And as far as I have seen, the two worlds coexist. There are still plenty of families that dress up and go to church on Easter.

Annie I can easily imagine your coworker's surprise since the NYC Easter Parade is so much more than what one might expect.

Before moving to Philadelphia in 1973 I flew into the city on New Year's Day. I had finished my Master's degree in December and had several interviews scheduled. I had never heard of the Mummer's Parade and was absolutely gobsmacked when I came up the stairs from the rail line in Center City and saw the Mummers in all their feathered glory.

Well, I think he expected a parade...y'know marching bands and floats and such. I guess he never saw the movie....
