Help with floor stain choice for damaged floors

last modified: last month

Hi, I’m restaining floors in a 100 year old house that I’m rehabbing that is a rental property. There are several damaged areas I’m trying to cover with darker stain as I don’t have the budget to fix all of them. The beautiful woodwork in the house is a reddish color that’s a good match to English Chestnut, but the dark spots really show with that color.

First pick is if I go darker stain (Jacobean mixed with red), I’m worried it’s too brown against the trim.

Second pic is of the English Chestnut on one of the damaged spots. It is lighter so does not hide as much but does match the trim better.

Floors are through whole house. What color would you pick?!
