Dining Room picture

Here’s my dining room after implementing some suggestions. The one thing I’m struggling with is the botanical pictures on the right wall. I agree with comments that it needs another picture but I’m really not loving them.
I’ve found two other prints that are larger 45” x 36”. One is Consider the Lilies and the other Fruit Bowl.
Would love some input!!
Will be changing light fixture later and I also plan to add some more plates. Thanks!!

Yes, to the larger piece of art. As we do like the Consider the Lillies, the Fruit Bowl better compliments your current color scheme with the plates and rug.

I like the expression "go bold or go home", so I think the "Consider the Lilies" picture is the best option. It seems to breathe some "life" into the room. I also think the colors are fine with what you already have. If there is room in there somewhere for a live plant near one of the windows, that would be nice too.

The wall is 97”….I can also get the print 48 x 38 instead of 45 x 36. Which size works better?

Get the larger one. You will still have just over 2' on each side of it.

    Thanks!!!

Keep this picture as well on the other side of room ?

If you decide to change the art above, suggest light/airy scenery with a wider mat and less heavy frame.

When replacing your chandelier, again suggest light/airy.

Art should really speak to you and be something that you love. Don't just get something because you think it goes well in the room. Which of these two new ones do you like the best? Go with that.

Also, use masking tape to tape out the different sizes and see how they look on your wall. Then decide which size.

Your room is lovely. Consider moving the plate rack where the two pictures are currently and adding an ornate mirror above the buffet. The mirror will help reflect some light around the room.

To me, botanicals always need wide mats. Online sources rarely (never?) frame them well. Would you like them better like this? (Same size prints, just larger mats and frames.)

Might consider replacing the table runner with a shorter mat under the centerpiece (lets more of the lovely wood tabletop show and leaves fewer "railroad track" lines running the length of the room):

No more plates that rack is full and IMO a bit odd in the room but it is what you love. Art only what you love and not something we choose. I think the botanicals are finne if you love them but larger frames and matting will be the answer .I never suggest art to clients it is a personal choice. BTW when choosing a new light think lighting the table not the ceiling

IMO the botanicals are fine except - you need three.

Your room is quite traditional but I will suggest that you install a larger, dramatic and more impactful piece of art instead of having the botanical prints. Also, the plate rack is not bulky (physically or visually) but might it look better as a painted piece? At first was going to suggest you paint it the same color as the buffet but perhaps white would be a better color to enlive the piece.

Plate rack may have been better in kitchen but no room. These plates are meaningful to me because they were hand painted by my great aunt that I loved dearly! Agree that the botanical would look great matted.

I think the plate rack is terrific. The plates are unique, and plate racks are at least as appropriate in a dining room as they are in a kitchen.

Agree amystoller! how wonderful Kathy to have these treasures from a loved one.

I like the fruit, but I don't think putting any art on opposing walls accomplishes anything. Looking into the dining all you see is the sides of the frames. Sitting at the table you are looking only at one wall.

Try the botanicals you have now; one on either side of the plates.

Acceent pillows on the two extra chairs would add some interest, as well.

Matting can really enhance art IMO. The example from simplynatural is lovely.

Kathy you have been given a lot of great advice. I thought we were only helping you choose between art pieces but of I was walking into the space these are the small changes I would make

    1. I would remove the plate rack and hang the plates directly on the wall. They have so much more imapact this way and become a real feature in the space and how lovely that your Aunt painted these. What a treasure!

    2. I would upgrade the drapery panels to a pleated warm white. Raise the height of them and eliminate the floor puddle.

3 . upgrade your rug. This one would be lovely in your space as your table has an old world rustic vibe

    4. I would beef up the lamps on your buffet to something lighter and brighter with a more prominent scale

5 . lower that chandelier! Add some shades.

6 axe the table runner, let your wood show and bring in a large bowl of flowers. Need not be real the live touch faux ones are so realistic now!

7 bring in art you love. one large piece for the wall on the right and stack two framed matted botanicals on the left

it would turn out looking something like this

Oh my goodness that looks beautiful. Thank you. I definitely can implement some of your suggestions. Not sure about removing the plate rack since my husband built it for me. He also built the beautiful walnut table. Thanks again!!

I did not realize the plate rack was also a treasure ;-) . would you consider moving it to the right wall and doing framed and matted art above the buffet?

Yes that would be a possibility!! Thank you

I really love your ideas and starting to look for curtains and rug. I love the Fruit picture but also looking at this Consider the Lilies picture on canvas with premium gold frame. What are your thoughts? Actually love both pictures!!

Kathy I think art is very personal so I say choose whatever makes your heart happy.

Thank you so much and I appreciate all of the good advice from everyone!!!

I LOVE what Design Interior South did with your space. The shades on your chandelier added another pattern, which i love. I also have that print of the transferware bowl of oranges in my kitchen.

Yes I really loved the suggestions she made for my dining room. I ‘m torn between 2 pictures so still trying to make that decision. Thanks for your comment!!

I have my picture and trying to decide how high to hang. This is about 40” from bottom of frame to floor. Thoughts??
