Exterior Home color

Hello,

We are painting out 1980's contemporary house. The roof is brown, the window metal frames dark brown and the garage and the front door will all remain brown. My husband likes iron ore from sherwin williams. I am more partial to cyberspace (but feels it has slightly too much blue) and inkwell (but feel it is just a little too dark). I think we could be very happy with a color that is as dark as iron ore but with a tiny bit of blue. Any ideas ? Thank you.

Sorry my picture didn’t upload. Here is what the house looks like.

Are you limited to SW colors?

wondering why you want blue undertones?

Why not SW Black Magic, black with a rich brown undertone.

No, we can use other paint brands for sure. I love blue and just think a hint of it would be nice in the sun. Our house is full sun and so I don't want to go totally blue because I know blues can read weird sometimes. I will check out black magic. Thank you.

BM Soot is a nice deep black with a blue undertone.

I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting this response but again that’s why I posted here. I know ChatGPT isn’t perfect but I thought it looked good. This is inkwell and iron ore

I am not sure those colours would look good with brown? What direction do you face? Are you PNW? We found colours really varied in different light. Our house is BM storm but with black door, garage, roof etc. We love it

With your hubby and found a photo:

Big difference between the brown of wood and brown paint.

It's just that the roof shingles have such a strong red tone that a blue is jarring next to it in my opinion.

I would look at a brown with gray undertone (brownish gray?) but not too dark.

BM Woodcliff Lake, Fallen Timber, Gargoyle?

@Jennifer I love chocolate and blue together too. I like the cohesiveness of having chocolate brown outside and inside. I chose a light cocoa brown siding with red trim and liked the chocolate-covered cherry feeling. I'm sure it's not what you want. I love the look of your home. I am continuing to use chocolate brown inside as well. I'm combining SW Charcoal Blue with dark chocolate cork flooring and am very excited to see how it turns out. I am curious to see if you can get a dark blue black for your house. Whatever color you choose, I hope you post the end result.

Iron Ore, which her husband likes, isn't brown. @WestCoast Hopeful, could you explain big difference between the brown of wood and brown paint?

The roof, the door, the garage, the window frames are all brown. Iron ore is grey.

Iron Ore has a green, sometimes green/blue undertone.

For those asking the front of the house faces south. When it’s sunny it’s very well lit. Here is a closeup of the roof. I appreciate all the responses! We have been looking at all the colors suggested. I’m now worried about blue clashing as some have suggested so maybe we will end up with iron ore. The pictures posted have been so helpful! Thank you!

What about matching the color of the garage door? The garage door and roof colors are very dominant. Let the body of the house be one color overall.

OR paint the garage door to match the house. Why does it need to stay the same as it is now?

The rooflines are interesting and a uniform color below will highlight the roof.

Then the front door can be a focal color or stain to bring the eye back down and create the sense of intimacy at the entrance.

I will create a concept rendering later.

Here is brown. I tried to get a cherry stain front door but it came out more cedar.

I love the idea of a dark siding on your home.

But keep in mind that the only way to choose is to see the color in real life, in your light. All the options suggested here could work, but there's a good chance that they might not. Anyone's idea of the "undertones" of these colors are just their perceptions of what the color looks like to them, in whatever setting they are viewing it. And the photos aren't rendering the colors well, just because they are on computer monitors, which are not good at showing what the color will actually look like.
