Investigate cluster pendants. You won't have rods, adjustable height, it will fill up all that empty air space.

Hi Lyn see pic attached. We just moved here a couple of weeks so ignore the mess we r still unpacking. It is one open space, kitchen, dr, great room. I spoke with a lighting manufacturer and he stated I would need (6) 18" down rods and didn't recommend it because they may not stay straight.

Consider cluster lighting. These West Elm, made for a rectangular table, Each pendant has its own cord (15') and you do the height arrangement as you like.

I would look for a light used in a staircase, so long and multi heads and spectacular . Maybe George Nelson buble lights at different heights and even different styles . THis is a space crying out for somethig awesome IMO the sputnik way too small and boring
