The color looks completely normal to me for new spring growth. All of mine look very similar. Leaf color should deepen as the season progresses.

Hmm, I am trying to build a mental picture... which city? Have you had late frosts? Please use a soil pH kit with numeric results to estimate what is pH near the base of the stems.

I wonder if you may have accidentally pushed the soil pH too low (say, below 4.5). In Connecticut, soils are already naturally very acidic so no need to amend to get blues although amendments may be needed to get cobalt-like blues. But below 4.5, you can have aluminum toxicity or several nutrients could become unavailable to the roots due to pH that is too low and that can produce the kind of yellowing that you are describing.

So (1) a naturally very acidic soil with naturally occurring aluminum+ (2) Holly-tone which contains acidifying nutrients + (3) aluminum sulfate which contains aluminum and acidifying nutrients = that might cause a problem.

@gardengal yes, I thought it looked just like spring growth as well but I have divisions if the exact same plant in my back garden and the leaves are dark green. Also, the picture may not be very clear but the yellow shows up as splotchy. It looks like photos of chlorosis that I have seen but considering all my soil amendments, I don’t know how that could be possibke

@luis_pr i am in 7a, by the shore in CT and we did have a week of 80-85 degree weather and then it snapped back to cold - 30s at night and 50s in the day. I think that’s why some of the leaf tips are brown but not sure why that would make the leaves yellow and splotchy. I have a ph kit (not sure how good it is!)) and will give that a shot and see. I have the hydrangeas all around my house which has a concrete foundation so maybe that is contributing to the problem
