Hi.. these were 4x4 structural posts wrapped in azek trim board!.. (furred out to about 16" square)
Don't use particle board outside.. azek or any other cellular pvc is best for maintenance free

Hello - what do you mean by "furred out"? Does that mean that the top and bottom moldings are 16" or that the column itself is 16" wide? Thanks!

it means there's a functional column inside like 4x4, then wood was added (furred) to give it volume. Then it was wrapped in the trim board.
