This is the design our landscaper did for us, and I planted what she suggested last year but what you are seeing is how things are growing.

Additional plantings of pieris and rhododendrons can help fill in and cover the mulch. Perhaps try some salal and sword ferns for smaller, more of a ground cover effect. Will likely suit and work better than sedum in that situation.

The picture of the plan was just too small to see. I presume it's a plan that is good for your location, but I can't comment. I like creeping phlox as a ground cover, but you need to buy plugs and plant them fairly densely.

When did you plant your plants? The saying is, the first year they sleep, the next they creep and then they leap, but the few small scattered plants you have will need to do a lot of growing to fill in.

@sigrid I planted them March of 2025. They are definitely doing better this year so far. I will definitely plant more as ground

Plants are fine but you need more groundcover.

I like Beach Strawberry. Fragaria Chiloensis. It spreads great and is too thick to allow weeds. Nice white flowers.

Creeping Thyme, blue/purple flowers.

I also cannot make out what is written on the blueprint.

So the plants that are on the design are

• pink/red is Autumn Joy Sedum

• the light green is salvia

• the two darker greens are white rock rose

• the dark green near the bottom is ceanothus impressus - dark star

• the yellow is ornamental grass

• the purple stars are Russian sage

• the green in the middle is compact strawberry tree. There are two large rhododendrons two pieris and one azalea.

Sedum is very easy to root. Take some stems when they get long enough and put them in water until they produce plenty of roots. Then plant them. Salvia might root well, too, but I'm not as familiar with it.

Smaller sedums, like lime zinger make good groundcovers. Mine spreads nicely, unlike my Autumn Joy, which grows as a thick clump, but doesn't spread the way Lime zinger does. If you look at sedums in a nursery, you'll see that Autumn Joy is a different type than Line Zinger. The ground-cover type will have a similar size and shape to Lime Zinger and come in different colors. I think Plum dazzled is also a groundcover type sedum.
