I need to make this area pretty and low maintenance. I plan to put a little white screen around the AC unit.

Are those stumps going to be removed?

A little screen around the ac unit would be ok, but not white. Tan, to match the rear wall.

What other landscaping is planned? I wouldn’t do white, maybe brown wood to recede behind any other landscape.

Zone? Nearest city? Sun/Shade? Are you expecting it to survive with only rain? If so, how much rain does your area get? What are the stumps? Are they pruned plants you expect to regrow? Or ones you got rid of?

If that is a Yucca it will re-leaf but may eventually get too large for that spot.

Plant iceplant groundcover like Portulaca. Add a sandstone boulder and potted succulents.

Refresh the border somehow...here AI went a bit over the top with it.
