I like that white Profusion Kate. Did I tell you I ran into some at my local nursery, and got a few? That orange one I had last year carried over to Halloween and fit right in......Monarda has never done well for me. I've tried various ones over the years and none of them like it here. It's a shame because it has such nice foliage even when not in bloom.......I think my favorite of yours is the Douglas Who Would Be Queen. Great medium pink color........Back to the potting mix job for awhile.................Maryl

Maryl, I have an older variety of the bee balm (monarda) that I have had for years that is not blooming yet. The leaves on it are dull and fuzzy. These newer ones have much prettier glossy foliage that looks so much better as a landscape plant after blooms are done. They are perrenial and even survived the single digit ice storm temps. I am glad you found some profusions. My nursery also had a new brighter red. Agree with you on the heat!!

Kay mentioned the abundance of scapes on many this season and yes, Kay, I have seen the same in spite of our continued drought. This is one example. I don’t think I have one with as many as she has (was it 24?) but a lot have a lot!!

Those weather conditions are not good for daylily openings. Bullfrog Kisses beats the odds and opens perfectly for you. Lily Farm Berrlicious shows a lot of promise. Show us what it look like when the temps are higher.

Nice grouping of pics. I have several monardas-bee balm here but nothing blooming yet. I've had several setbacks with the weather this spring going from hot to cold with freeze and back to warm and another freeze but I think we are finally out of the woods. I don't have any early daylily bloomers so it will be awhile yet.

Julia, I know what you mean about the weather. I did not have the usual rose flush because of late freeze. Other spring blooming cycles were impacted by the up and down weather loops.

Are the conditions ever lousy for opening of many daylilies.. Most of them do okay later but miss the best photo time, but too many just stay very off.

Kate, you still have some pretties. Bullfrog Kisses surprisingly is one of the ones that does great. Your purple NOID looks good. Your profusion zinnia is a winner and Monarda is always good.ho Would BE Queen looks really good.

The blooms arent the prettiest but thank goodness for the rain this season. Soon we will be complaining about the heat. It is just good to see some blooms now……yours will be fantastic soon!

Last year at this time I had browning foliage before any blooms opened, this year is starting off so much better…..so far.

I like the dwarf monarda, but don't think that they tend to bloom as long as taller varieties. All year we have had temperature see-saws, except for constant cold in January-February. And lots of wind, which I hate. I hope you get the rain that will set your season on a vigorous path.

Kay, my noids are really doing better than the named varieties at this point. Of course they are older varieties.

Mantis, my tall monarda has not begun blooming yet so I am thinking these bloom cycles will overlap. Your weather is a ditto of mine!!
