WANTED EXTERIOR OPINIONS!

Hi everyone.
I am looking to revamp the exterior of our home. (We are getting our gutters done aswell)
Any opinions on what colour siding would compliment the house + brick?
I was leaning towards black gutters, door, shutters & garage as we have alot of black accents in our yard... but im unsure what would compliment the house the best especially what to paint over our siding.
I uploaded two pics: one pic included has one of my choices.
I am open to any and all opinions!
Thankyou ❤️

The awnings need to go. They are not giving a great impression. Could you please tell us what color your roof is. its hard to tell from the picture, and the roof needs to go with the colors.

Gutters are not a design feature. You want them to match the roof or the trim and disappear. Your shutters look funny with the awnings. Are you keeping the awnings? If you are keeping them and not replacing them, then the brown is important to consider. Your house appears to be a greenish yellow, which does not go with your brick. I'd think a warm tan with brown trim would work, if you are keeping the awning. SW Woven Wicker or Soft Fawn and I'd pair them with a brown, not black. Half-caff, perhaps. I'd lean towards keeping the awnings and ditching the undersized shutters, but that reduces your color options.

I presume the awnings are reducing hot sun in your front rooms, but if you are getting rid of the awnings, your choice of colors widens.

    The roof is brown!

I agree about the awnings, they need to go.

I would try a darker tan for your siding. If you can see other colors in your brown roof, pick a color from there. The yellow is too light, and too bright, and doesnt look good at all. I like the idea of tan, but, a darker tan, not a lighter tan. Once you remove the awnings, you may have periods during the day, that the sun will hit that area. I would invest in some good blinds for those windows, that you can pull down, when the sun is hitting the windows, and then roll back up when the sun moves to a new location.

Thank you cat_ky & sigrid, im enjoying hearing everyone's thoughts! This is very helpful, keep em coming 😂 as for my idea of black for the shutters/doors and garage maybe a deep brown would work best to compliment the house, and since I was suggested to keep the gutters brown to blend with the roof.  (Have you seen sherwin williams sw9175 deep forest brown im leaning towards that)

The shutters must go...they don't fit; they are vinyl; they are attached to the house with screws....they need a new name: "shudders". Keep the awnings, keep the window color and paint the house a sage green...this photo from facebook.

^^^ I also agree that the shutters need to be removed (in addition to the awnings):

Larger windows (like your four windows that are mulled together) should not have shutters:

Shutters need to look as if they are functional = they are sized to fit inside of the window frame + not be installed flat against the siding of the house:

The shutters on the double window over the garage would require a folded shutter on each side that opens up to cover the entire window.

This house below is one that is constantly posted as an example of using a sage green with red brick (typically it is a closer photo that shows the front door that is recessed to the right of the garage):

Here is a blue one - this was a custom color (they provided the formula - however, they received many comments that the forumula wasn't producing the right blue color) - you can find some blue paint colors that look similar to the photo to try if you like it with the red brick:

Thankyou dani_m08 That was so detailed, I appreciate the visuals. I see what everyone means about the shutters. I never considered the green until this thread .

Also, thankyou oncape ! Its so true these shutters do nothing😂

Jolene - once you learn about functioning shutters, you will start noticing how faux shutters don't look right (you can add non-functional shutters - they don't have to actually function - they just need to look like they do!)

Solid shutters (vs. molded plastic ones that are hollow) that are sized correctly + installed on the window trim (not flat against the siding) add dimension to the front of your home and look so much nicer!

Your red brick is more difficult to work around because it is a solid red - I would be tempted to have it painted/lime washed (with something similar to Romabio that's made for covering brick - not regular latex paint - you need to let your brick "breathe.")

There are many people on Houzz who are against painting brick - but due to the color of your brick + the small amount that you have (unless the sides and back of your home have a lot of brick - I'm assuming that it doesn't) - I would consider it. It would open up A LOT more paint options!

Romabio has different colors available (four of them shown below). You can wash it off within a certain number of hours back to your existing brick color if you don't like it):

You can use a lime wash that only partially covers the brick:

Or you can make it a solid color:

OR - have coverage somewhere between the second photo and the third photo.

Agree, but there is no authetic or authentic looking shutter that would fit those windows.
