Yes indeed. Trials, I agree. We, too are supposed to get rain but I will believe it when I see it.

You have some very pretty blooms here. Who Would Be Queen is a lovely one. El Shaddai is gorgeous; Purple and fancy edges too! Skater is always a winner and I like Charming Charlie.

I pulled a couple hundred blooms last evening so it is he4ating up here and I am lterally praying for some of the again promised rain.

I have put out 110 1 1/2 cubic foot bags of mulch and still will be putting out about 15 more on the side bed. And it is hot now. But just think, fighting those dratted red bugs and the loathsome deer and putting out cardboard and mulch is good for us; it gives us a purpose,

Kate, you showed us some gorgeous blooms today……I sure hope things improve for you and those nasty red bugs leave for good.Your season this year sounds like what we experienced the last two years, darn drought conditions. It sure is disappointing when we look forward to seeing those beautiful blooms and the weather doesnt cooperate.

we had plenty of rain in early spring, May has been dry here.

I have no garden complaints here this season……got my fingers crossed because I said it out loud!

Kay, how funny! I want to cross bugs and deer off my ”purpose” list!! Funny about the deer-this is the first time they have been around since the ice storm. I read an article written by a forest ranger that said the all night ”popping” and limbs falling during the ice storm had more than likely altered their runs.

Sherry, I usually have more rain than I need in the spring but not this year. I have tons of drought resistant weeds, however!

Kate: You have some lovely blooms in this group. Lillians Vapor Trail has a wonderful amount of buds. I had that one on my wish list but decided to get Isabelle Rose. However that green throat on LVT is quite lovely. I have several of the Hot and Cold verison of Red Hot Poker plants. I haven't seen any 'torches" coming up yet.

We are in for several days of rain coming tomorrow and into the weekend so this will cool us back down to a reasonable temperature. 90's this early in the season is not my favorite gardening weather.

Julia, LVT does have lots of buds. I got a wonderful clump shot today. Lillian’s Thin Ice has a more graceful bloom while LVT looks like she forgot to brush her hair when she got up!!

Hopefully your poker plants will torch for you this season. I have enjoyed mine and have ordered more. Deer have not bothered them!! And I hope I did not jinx that!!

That's a pretty shade of orchid/lavender on your noid and I always enjoy seeing pictures of Happy Happy. The edge on it is a marvel.........We've also been dry lately, but today the promised rain arrived and I've got a day or two off from potting outside as the showers are still coming in off and on. I'm hoping this system moves on to all of you that need it.......I like your Poker plant. Some have been better for me then others. Backdraft was my best with at least 2 sometimes 3 repeat blooms. My rabbits never bothered it either..........Maryl

I too like the poker plant, and this is a nice bunch of lilies. Who Would Be Queen looks good, but given the parentage, I wouldn't trust performance here. Yes, there are lots of question marks hovering over the coming season. May 18 was the first 90-degree day in Columbus; the average first one occurs on June 10. And today here, a heat index of 97--very humid. The cooler period in early May, while out of place, was refreshing. Yes, lots of rain in the forecast. We shall see how it plays out; certainly, it will be humid.

I like Lily Farm Berrylicious here, and Skater is always a favorite. I think my favorite is Kensington Plantation. Happy Happy always had low bud count in Nashville, although the blooms were pretty.

Kate, the Noid is fantastic!! What a great color! Who Would Be Queen is a great color and form. Your Scarlet Pimpernel looks a bit darker than mine in that photo.

Brad, you would like that noid color! I probably should have called it a seedling. Years (and years!) ago before my daylily club moved to be closer to a large city, we had a member who lived in the Mississippi Delta. Ms. Adams had a son, Phillip Adams, who lived in San Francisco who would come home a couple of weeks in early summer to hybridize. He did a Civil War series of daylilies, I think. This is one of his seedlings so it is at least 30 years old.
