Help with ugly house

I need help with what I can do to improve the front of this house. It’s so flat and plain and the front door is not centered. I’d love to hear some ideas.

it's not ugly, apparently just not your style.

I would remove the shutters. and trim down the shrubs A picture of all side would be helpful, what are you planning to do, Paint? add a walkway? what direction does the house face?

changing any windows? is just one window black?

If you love the idea of shutters and a traditional look, you could add a pergola, even a narrow long one to fill the empty area above the front door.

Many DIY pergola kits available. Quicker and less expensive than building custom.

It wants a porch. The good news is that porch placement can disguise all sorts of disproportions. I used that trick on the back of my house which used to be a mishmosh of windows, doors and a chimney. Play around with whatever computer gadgetry you are comfortable with in trying out different shapes and dimensions. I used PowerPoint which is really basic. Make a generous porch. Span the whole front with well spaced good sized columns and you'll never notice the spacing between door and windows. Make it deep for a porch swing or furniture groupings. Have a wide patio off to the right leading to your garage (?). It's the most inexpensive way I know to add living space to a home. And enjoy the fall views of that extraordinarily beautiful tree. You don't have an ugly house.

By the way, is the siding in good shape or does it need replacing? Are the windows in good shape and the door, or do they need replacing. How is the roof? If you need to replace them all, do it all together and make it cohesive. Keep in mind you'll be adding a porch. The porch can come later if you want, or it can all happen together like it did for us if you can afford it. Find a good contractor, not a cheap contractor, and they will have an architect on hand to assist with porch design.

Great possibilities; great lot! I think the house is a 1960s raised ranch trying hard to look like a Georgian Colonial.

    Get new windows.

If the siding is okay, stain it a soft white. (Ask your paint store how to prep it).

    Add a front portico.

    Work on the landscaping.

    Keep it simple, but classy.

Add a front porch, shutters and landscaping.

    Sorry, posted the wrong pic

A more substantive and gracious entry goes a long way as @Emily shows - I’d spend my budget on that and improving the landscaping over time

    Something like Emily just posted.

    Or like this, the "before"

    The "after"

This transformation probably is a result of a major renovation, but you get the idea.

Here is my concept adding an awning, wooden porch, and brick landing/walkway. Incorporate the different window colors using a black and white color scheme.

My sketch that I fed into AI and then prompted it with my color scheme and other details:

I'd add a simple portico over the door. To deal with the asymmetry, I'd put a larger garden bed on the left of the door, with a taller shrub between the door and the window. You should take another picture. You might want to paint the upper window trim white. Having some black and some white windows is not helping.

I wouldn't be in a big hurry to accentuate the front door since it will probably just accentuate the asymmetry. Moving the house numbers to the side, and getting a larger light would help. The idea is to create a montage of three objects, the door, the light and the numbers, that is centered. Then work on the landscaping.

I do not think the extra wide awning is good but I think Emily's idea is quite nice with the walkway and much better landscping. Symmetry is over rated IMO sometimes not makes a much more interesting exterior.

I don't have a problem at all with your house. It's the orange shutters and door that I take offense to.

Pick a different color for the shutters and door.
