I've heard cats make that noise before. I don't think it's very happy as they have a lot of nerve endings at the base of their tail and it seems to be overstimulated and unhappy about it.. It is biting the radio and going after the food out of frustration, not in a calm and happy way.

Cats do not like being scratched on their backs as this idiot is doing. You can be expect to be bit. It over stimulates them and it hurts. Stop this stupidity.

Yes, I’ve heard it. From my own experience, it can depend on the cat. Ours really liked being scratched all over her back, including above her tail. However, we once had a cat who was more like the one in the video. I still have a scar from where he scratched me, so we left his back alone! He did love being scratched under the chin and head.

My George very much enjoys scratches and firm pats right above his tail. If he catches me sitting somewhere, he will come present his backside to me, and look at me with expectation until he gets his scratches and pats. He doesn't make those noises though. He is not a very vocal cat, and only makes noise when he is unhappy, like when he is in his carrier or wants to go outside.

Yes, but most cats aren't that vocal. Does he like it? I don't think so, and he's displacing his aggression. Some cats really like being scratched on the end of their back, and some don't. Or he could be really itchy, and light scratching there sets off even worse itchiness.

The cat is clearly distressed. I don't torment my cats, so they've never made that sound.

I’ve heard that noise, but not from my cats. Our current cat loves to be scratched along her back and at the base of her tail. She also likes having her tummy stroked, unlikemost cats. We raised her and her late sister to be ”handleable” as our previous cat was very difficult to handle, which made trips to the vet and medicating her very difficult.

I've had cats my whole adult life. Some have liked rear end scratches and others haven't. The ones who did never made a sound like that.

The guy is going to get bit. Why put a pet you supposedly love in a position to need to defend itself by biting?

Horrible video. Some areas on cats bodies are super-sensitive. They may allow a brief touch but will react adversely if it continues beyond the tolerance level.

I’ve had four cats. They were as different from each other as my three kids were. That cat is not happy. I don’t find it funny.

Our furry friends can’t communicate verbally. We owe them the courtesy of picking up on the ways they communicate. I feel for that cat.

I never felt ownership. More a feeling of thankfulness to have them be in my life.

I don't think it's AI. My cat made sounds like that when I got out one of those iron cat silhouette things with marble eyes that you put in your garden. I had brought it home from my parents' house and showed it to her and she freaked out, making very similar sounds.

I made myself rewatch this and this horrible person has done this before. The cat looks like it has been starved to capture the video. It is hating this and this person knows that. It seems to know not to bite the evil person and I have to wonder why. In spite of hating this that cat stuck to its food and that tells me something. Have people not seen those cat food commercials where the cat comes racing in and starts gobbling down what ever is in the bowl? That cat has been starved to make it appear they love the food.

I have never had a cat that liked having that area scratched. I had one cat so sensitive I had to use a desensitizing spray on his back. Because he wouldnt groom I had to brush him to get rid of dead skin. Maybe I could have had a cat or two that would have liked it but I had to many that didn't so didnt do it.

I'm asking out of curiosity, nothing more, how do you know this person has done this before patriciae? I looked at their videos, etc. and I don't see any other cat stuff. I would think the cats in commercials have done without food, but I wouldn't think it was to the point of starvation. I wouldn't scratch the cat they way they do in this short, but I do think cats make weird sounds all on their own, AI isn't necessary to get that part.

I've heard my male cat make this sound, when he is overstimulated. The sound is 100% real.

I have seen cats do that, although they’re carrying it too far. They are certainly overstimulating that cat. When I was doing research on fleas on the feral ones coming around, I read that if you scratch that area on the base of the tail, and if the cat reacts in this fashion, then they are with fleas. I don’t think it’s a full proof plan, but certainly that is a sensitive area.

The sound is real. The person is an idiot.

If the cat was in distress/not enjoying the scratching then why didn't it hiss or try to run away? Maybe I'm wrong, but in the video it looked the cat was both enjoying the scratching and not enjoying it at the same time. When I saw the video I thought that the cat liked the scratching but was also a bit ticklish. If this cat is truly in distress as people are saying, I'm sorry for posting this.

The cat is hungry. The person is delibertately harassing the cat. The cat is adamantly and loudly protesting — howling, ”yelling” and in frustration directing its anger toward the range hood by biting it.

Notice how the person (“man”) grabs the cat’s neck to redirect/correct the cat, but continues his harassment.

As to why the cat is not biting the guy or running away, here’s why: the guy routinely abuses and antagonizing this cat and has communicated to the cat that he is dominant. I suspect the cat is very hungry and feels trapped, harassed and bullied (continually) by the sadistic owner. This treatment is not a one off.

I suspect the guy would sadistically dominate an infant, child or spouse in much the same way.

The ignorant cruel video should be removed. If I knew where or how, I would articulate why to those running the platform.

PS Have I heard a cat vocalize like this before? Not in the combined way. This cat is being antagonized. I have heard a cat howl (accidentally stepped on or in a cat fight) and I have heard a cat ”talk.” I always spoke to my cat/s - we’d have conversations. This cat in the video is ”yelling” — protesting the abuse and asking to be left in peace. I am confident that this owner frequently disrespects and sadistically antagonizes this black and white cat. What’s next, pulling out the feline’s toenails? cigarette burns?

Stax, for me the answer is that the OP here is CLEARLY not intending to be inappropriate or abusive. They are a regular poster who genuinely thinks (thought?) the video was funny.

The discussion which has followed has been enlightening. The video can be viewed different ways by different people. The OP clearly meant no harm, and a good discussion has ensued. Neither of which is worth flagging, solely in my own personal opinion if course.

If the cat was actually enjoying the encounter it would stop eating and enjoy the moment. It is instead feint biting at the scratcher which means stop but turns back to the food which it gobbles-very very hungry.

Jeremy, the cat owner, is obtuse. he thinks it’s funny, cute. He is immature and has not evolved to consider the cat as a sentient entity.

Looks to me that setting is done in a veterinarian office? Which doesn’t make the video any more pleasant in my opinion.
