Fun article. I was surprised that I have been to seven! I'm old and have traveled around the US many times. There are a few in areas that we frequent that I haven't been to yet.

Dee, that’s so cool … I was hoping to hear if anyone had been to any of these! I’ve been to nearly every state (and many of the cities), but never to any of these restaurants.

I’ve been to 3 but not the one in my state.

I have been to the ones in NY and CT.

The one in NJ is close to my house. For some reason, there's no writeup for that one in the article. Odd.

Looked it up on Yelp as I do before going to any new restaurant. Only 3 stars so we won't be going. But, fun article!

Oh my gosh, we were in Alaska’s Talkeetna and I’m pretty sure that the oldest restaurant (and B&B) is the place my friend’s mom owns there! My friend was born and raised there, but moved to Albuquerque with her (now late) military husband! She tells me her mom will take great care of us if we stay there on our next trip to Alaska. And, she’s planning on moving back there sometime soon, too.
And, we’ve also eaten several times at New Mexico’s oldest, too!

Oh, this is fun ! I've been to the Talkeetna Roadhouse numerous times having lived in Anchorage since 1983, they're known for their sourdough pancakes and more! Cool you've been there, LynnNM - and that your friend knows the owner :) The view of Denali over the Talkeetna River is to die for and the line-up of flight services to ferry climbers up (and hopefully back) is super cool too - back in the '80s I got a tour with Doug Geeting of the Ruth Amphitheater and landed on the Ruth Glacier all for $25 ... don't know what it costs now... we are old mountain climbers, my husband and I... never made it up Denali though he attempted and my friends invited me on their trip where they made it - I had to get serious about University at the time, so missed and always wondered if I could've done it. Sorry for the rant, nostalgia you know... nowadays gardening suffices :)

For the Alaska list, Chena Pumphouse in Fairbanks is worth a mention ! They started in 1933 so the building is very historic and the deck right next to the Chena river is a place to spend a couple of hours munching their bar food over a couple of drinks - or in the dark winter, a game of pool in that building full of history.

And I've been to Antoine's, I love that creole food! Must've been 11 years ago we had a proper dinner around Mothers day - me, my mother and my daughter - so fun to get dressed up... we also went to Commander's Palace that trip. Antoine's also has a bar that serves those amazing puffy french fries and my daughter was served her first real cocktail with our permission (she went to Tulane University her freshman year)

And now New Hudson Inn is on my list because I really want to hang out in Detroit next time I visit my mother who lives an hour north of there.

I haven’t been to the Village Tavern in Illinois in years, back when they hosted an auction on Thursdays I think it was. My friend got a teddy bear and little wicker table and chairs for it at an auction. Lots of fun.

Fun article - but Jilly was right when she wondered about the accuracy.

McGillin's Tavern is perhaps the oldest tavern still operating in PA. But it was only established in 1860. I've been many times, especially when I worked in Philly and would meet DH after work.

There are several restaurants that are much older. I haven't been in over 30 years but The Logan Inn in New Hope opened in 1722. DH and I stopped at the King George ll in Bristol a few months ago after visiting friends. Their claim to fame is that they are America's oldest continuously operating Inn, opening in 1681.

One of my favorites is a place where we often stop when we're on a road trip from the Philly area to Pittsburgh. The Jean Bonnet Tavern is on the old Lincoln Highway (aka Route 30). It's on the National Register of Historic Places and was a meeting place during the Whiskey Rebellion. You can see the 1762 stone building from the PA Turnpike near the Bedford exit. They also have rooms for overnight stays.

A few more- but there are quite a few other places that claim to be the 'oldest.'

The William Penn Inn in Gwynedd opened in 1714.

The General Warren in Malvern dates to 1745 - but had several lapses in operation.

I do visit new places too but the old ones are much more charming.

Interesting, maire! Those places sound amazing. I so agree about old ones being more charming! I had many favorites in Europe that were hundreds of years old.

My list is easy, sadly. Zero.

The only one I've been to is Antoine's. Worth it for the ambience. Food was very good but I don't think it was my favorite meal in NOLA.

My nephew lives in San Francisco. I keep urging him to go to Tadich Grill. It is one of my favs. Because his wife does not eat fish, it’s a hard sell.

I think the only two I have been to...is ours in Oklahoma, Cattlemen's and New Mexico, The Plaza. We go to Cattlelmen's quite often-and usually shop the Stockyards while we are there. And, The Plaza in Santa Fe is always a must for me, and has really good Spicy Fish and Chips-I always only order that there.

Jakabedy, I was in Santa Fe at The Plaza last month also...who knows, maybe we were there at the same time. We always sit outside with our dog underfoot.
