Highlights from July 5th

There were a ton of new blooms in the garden this morning. I will only post the most outstanding ones or ones that I don't post often. It was also nice to get out there and discover that it was overcast. Great for taking pictures. We also had a little rain around 2:30 am.

BIG FROSTY got my attention when I went out the back door, as it stood out with big off-white blooms.

SECRET FAMILY RECIPE: I like this one from the Shooters. Opens up without any difficulty.

MAN OF SORROWS: Big bloom that got my attention

SPLENDOR OF THE KING: 2nd year in the ground

RATTLESNAKE RAKE: Found it blooming in the holding bed. Will be getting moved to the main garden.

ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN: splotch-free First bloom of the season.

LINDA SIERRA: one of my all-time favorites, because of the color.

THUNDERBIRD DANCER with a slight pattern.

GREEN IMPERIAL PIGEON

HERBGIRL'S CHERRY MOONSHINE: When established, this is a bloom machine.

ROARING FORK

BLACK FALCON RITUAL: This is a good plant. Blooms are consistent.

Lots of pretty ones, David. Man of Sorrows is my top choice. Great color and form. Splendor of the King and Roaring Fork are next. Two songs come to mind instantly for the first 2.

Overcast--what a gift. So many nice ones here that catch attention. Thunderbird, Linda Sierra (a good year for her), Man of Sorrows (not its best color this year, but it is a great plant). I also like Showtime Magic, though discovered it is only 20 inches. Bennetts have such a varied color range.

Mr. Bennett had phases that he would go through. I remember hearing him speak one time at a club meeting when talking about his intros. He stated that he would always work with pinks, but then he would dabble in the yellow/cream color range for a year or two. Then he focused more on the orange polychrome color range for a couple of years. When Lavender Blue Baby came out, he crossed it with KIWI MAGIC and got a couple intros out of that cross. That was how he operated when I got into daylilies 30 years ago.

I'm very much liking Showtime Magic again. Man of Sorrows and Splendor of the King look like terrific reds, and I always like your photos of Tactical Cat. Secret Family Recipe has a gorgeous edge!

Showtime Magic is beautiful and Tainted Love draws my attention since it's in the color range I like. Then there is These Foolish Things calling to me. It's not just the color (which may not do too well in our heat), but also the wide open faces and texture of the petals. Great form.....Having said all that my absolute favorite is Imperial Pigeon. Any comments on how it performs for you?.............Maryl

David, amazing blooms! So many to like. Imperial Pigeon is lovely. All Things to All Men and Secret Family Recipe are really pretty. I am beginning to be drawn to the color on Man of Sorrows. Great post
