Oh wow Kate…..that makes me so sad to see the condition of your plants. I will say Caberet is a trooper in your weather! I like Moon Shimmers…..does the marvelous edge have a greenish tint? It seems from your photo it might.

Sherry, yes the foliage looks horrible but I know the plants will regroup. I am honestly glad to see the season end as no blooms are pretty with ratty foliage. Yes, Moon Shimmers does have thst greenish tint on the edge. I owe Debra thanks for this lovely plant-and it's not purple!!

Is the foliage in that state because of the draught or the heat or both?...........I love the ruffles on Moon Shimmers.....My Sitting on a Cloud didn't do so well this year after a hard divide in early spring. I'll try and show it later and you will see the difference in color from your climate to mine. Mine is not anywhere near purple (as is usual here)........Maryl

Maryl, I suspect both conditions contributed to foliage stress. I usually get lots of rain in May and June and this keeps the plants going through the sporadic rain in the next couole of months. Without that moisture in the ground stress set in early. Yes, please post your Sitting On A Cloud-always interesting to see the same plant in someone else’s garden

So sorry about your drought. I didn't realize you'd gotten so little rain. Moon Shimmers looks wonderful, and I'm happy to see it and Dearest Valentine reblooming despite those conditions. Cabernet Caberet is such a trouper!

Maryl, I really like Looking Back. The gold edge with the violet looks great. Never heard of it. I will have to look it up. Moon Shimmers is also looking fantastic. Another one to look up. You Are Mine looks great in a clump.

Debra, Moon Shimmers is really beautiful. I am going to move it this fall as it is in the direct path of a tree we are having cut due to ice storm damage. Thank you for sending it. This is the second round of rebloom on Dearest Valentine. It just keeps going.

David, not Maryl but hopefully she won’t mind that!! I think I will like Looking Back. It is a Bell and is an EV. This was FFE so the scape will be cut. You Are Mine is a fantastic plant.

Foliage is stressed here too, even with more than adequate rainfall. The cabaret clump is terrific. I have the beginning of one. It is disheartening to see the colr fading.

Brad, yes, the colors of those you mentioned are close. Mantis, as you know, extreme heat after rain can cook foliage in the same way no rain does. I had many of the earlies go summer dormant as they are prone to do. I have had two more light rains this week so that will bring them out of their dormancy.

I recognize the foliage problem since I have been fighting it all season for the same reason; no rain. We finally got some, still not enough to make up for rain free seasons. Your blooms are still lovely and doing so well. Hakuna Matata has always been a favorite. I agree with you regarding Cabbage Butterfly. Sweet Isabella is one of the very best rebloomers here. My Explosion if the Paint Factory has always popped out that single yellow once or a few times a season. Cabernet Cabaret is blooming so well.
