No. When you look at the two samples together, I do not get any of the lighter color in the rug. A wise 4H clothing fashion judge stated that with your eyes squinted, both colors should be obvious.

Daughter had made a jacket and skirt. Skirt was a color that was a minor player in the print of the jacket. From a distance you wondered why the skirt was the color is was. Valuable lesson in clothing and decorating learned that day.

That wouldn't work for me. I'd want at least a bit of the sofa color in the rug. Or a rug with colors that somewhat coordinate with the fabric. This combo just seems off to me but I'm much less of an expert than others here. In fact I'm no expert at all so consider the source.

I like the combo, I think it would be lovely.

In the first photo in the OP, my reaction was NO. But in the closeup photo in the next post, I think it does work. The light fabric looks similar to some of the background colors in the rug.

It's so hard to tell on a computer monitor, but my first reaction is that the suggested fabric is the wrong hue.

It's so funny! On my computer I said aloud "Yes" at the first photo, then, "Wait, what?" for the 2nd.

I dont see any aqua in the rug but if they complement each other in real life, it would work. Heres a silly nit that bothers me. You can see the weave in both the rug and the fabric. It looks kind of busy. If the fabric were a tighter more solid look, it would be better

on my monitor, the lightest background color in the rug looks a lot like the top left fabric for the sofa

The colors in the rug look completely gray to me. If there's something aqua-ish and not gray then I'd go for it.

It is risky going by monitors. Every one of us could be seeing different hues.

To my eye, they work together. But I'm of the opinion that you do not have to have the same color carry from one piece to the other - they just have to speak to each other and I think they do, particularly when you view them in the planes they will be in.

Yes - colors can compliment without matching - especially when they're in the same family. I do think it depends on the style of sofa as well.

On the other hand, light colors always make me wonder if they'll get grimy over time. I kind of like that deeper teal...

I have picked a real color for sofas before, one a large "red" sectional and the other large "sage" sofas, and I would strongly recommend that you go with a neutral color for the sofa.

Make sure you really really love the color before committing to using it on a sofa and you aren't the type to get tired of decor easily. Better to save the color/pattern to use on a set of chairs.

My concern would be that the light aqua on a sofa would end up being a lot lighter overall than you envision.

But I agree that if your gut says no even though you love the combination then I go by my gut.
