How to layout this room with the odd recess?

I am working on a layout for this living space in my apartment at my son’s new place. I am doing paint and changing lighting, but the fireplace and floors will remain as they are. A corner fireplace is not my favorite thing, but I can work with it. I’m trying to decide on what type of seating for the area where I will watch tv and read. I will occasionally have a friend or 2 visit, and my grandkids will spend the night occasionally, but it will just be me for the most part. Pics 1-2 are the from the listing. They had the sofa at an angle, which I will not be doing. My plan is to put the TV on the wall to the left of the fireplace.

Should I put the sofa against that wall opposite where I’m putting the TV? My issue is that a decent sized sofa will extend past the end of the wall and be hanging out in front of the recess.

Or do I pull the seating totally away from that wall and float it in the space and have a walkway behind the sofa?

I would float a sofa in front of the TV and fireplace and create the conversation seating facing the TV and fireplace and the window view. If your grands are young, I'd get a pullout loveseat type for the recess.

Try adding a measured floor plan with windows, doors, and open doorways marked.

I must be blind this morning I do not see an odd reces. I agree a to scale 2D floor plan is what we need all windows , doorways and where those lead and every measurement clearly marked , Show the FP and for sure that recess.

The AI rooms do not include the roof lines, and the fireplace is off etc, so do transfer to your space at all. As requested, measured floor plan please. What's your budget do you own any pieces that have to go into this space etc. We need specifics.

Is the furniture shown on the floor plan pieces you already own? If these are contemplated pieces, a straight sofa plus matching ottoman would give you the same feet-up comfort with more flexibility in placement. And is this floor plan to scale? If so, it doesn't look like you really have room to float the sofa and still have chairs. Having it hang out past the wall would bother me; I'd push everything up toward the dining area so it doesn't. It looks like a floor lamp with a slender shaft could still fit between the sofa and the wall jog (base tucks half under the sofa, light angles or arcs over the sofa). As for the recess, it's not very usable since the head space slopes to nothing in the back. Using it for storage hidden by an attractive folding screen, as you've shown, seems reasonable to me. Here's an adjusted floor plan using the existing pieces:

Paint will do wonders to calm the space visually.

Another possibility for the recess might be a desk (extending in until it meets the slope) and perhaps bookshelves:

Thanks all! The house is about an hour away from where I live now, so had to get measurements when I was in the area. I have all of the furniture shown in my sketch, not the pieces in the photos, those were previous owner. However I am open to replacing pieces if it needs to be done. Here is the drawing with measurements. The rug in the dining area is an 8x10 and the living area rug is 9x12.
