Couple of ways to go with these beams, olde english pub-style would certainly fit and so would early Americana . Either one would look nice with soft butter yellow walls with red accents for the pub or blues and greens for the colonial look. Loads of accessories around for both. Have fun!

You are on a budget, as you have told us, so fix what needs to be fixed.

Pull the carpet....what's underneath it?

There is wood underneath. We do plan to pull the carpet. Not sure what condition it's in.

Paint the fireplace.

After carpet is gone, I would paint the walls and ceiling a warmer white like navajo. Remove airbox in thw window. Then start to furnish with furniture. I love the fireplace as is. Check Kathryn M Ireland website/projets for loadsof ideas for this style home. Darling place. Have fun!

It is a darling space with wonderful character. I would go with a natural canvas sofa and bring color in with pillows and rug. I would move the TV to either side of the fireplace and set on a great vintage dresser. Two chairs in neutral then add your colored pillows there as well. I would find a pair of vintage sconces for flanking the fireplace, or nice reproductions. Find a nice old mirror for above the fireplace. Pottery Barns Rebecca Trunk would make a great coffee table for you. A small writing table with lamp and chair in front of the window would be nice looking from outside and useful inside . I would do a roll-up bamboo blind on the window from Smith Noble and add a drape panel at each end like Pottery Barns Alexandra floral in gray or red.

This country house has loads of character but priority would be to (1) remove the carpet and replace with wood or stone flooring in a lighter shade; (2) figure out TV placement and (3) remove the window Aircon and replace with a wall mount unit. The giant speakers should go. You need slimmer smaller speakers or a soundbar. TV can be placed at an angle at the corner to the left of the fireplace. Once those biggies are sorted out, the fun can begin on the decorating.

Hi Heather....first of all congratulations....it must be very exciting....I would take one room at a time....I would pick the paint color first then choose furniture that will go with your style. We live in Florida but I still love my country...The only thing with a beach theme is our master and bath.....the rest well ..........let's just say I didn't leave anything country behind and I do look in the stores for my country décor every chance I get....Americana and Primitive go great together...Good luck....

I have been a designer for 25 years and I truly understand working with a budget. Before you do anything, pull the carpet, clean the beams and acid wash the stone on the fireplace. Try not to paint the beams or the stone. Living in the country, you will be sorry. Rough wood and rough stone attract dust like a magnet and it is hard to get off. Sand and wax the wood, and acid wash the stone with muriatic acid (swimming pool cleaner. Be sure to wash it off with water when you get it clean) I really like the idea of Coastal Country. Buy a large jute rug (its natural, cheap and doesn't show dirt) and hang linen drapes (ikea - cheapest anywhere) as close to the ceiling as you can - it will make the 8 foot ceilings appear much taller. Later, if you need more coverage on the windows, mount woven wood roman shades behind the drapes from the ceiling to the bottom of the window.

Consider going to West Elm or that type of store to buy a very square clean sofa as a base that comes with slipcovers. They go on tight with velcro and look clean and modern, but you can then layer on other styles of furniture for different looks that you won't get tired of. Plus,

you can wash the slipcovers and change colors with the seasons. Most economical in the long run. Good luck!
