Could you make some kind of arm cover? Either a rectangle with straps to fasten underneath the arm or a shaped one that pulled on and fastened around the arms? Black or a fun pattern for an accent? A patch of suede or leather glued to the top of the arm, over the hole?

I love the idea of a fabric arm cover ... not sure about how challenging the design would be as the fit will be key but I think it could look really cool!

Could you use this tape? Get a fun color, cut it into simple interesting shapes and put them all over the top of the arms, not just the worn areas.

If you are looking for "fun", I would say flower or leaf shaped leather patches sprinkled on the arm, not just where the problem area is. The issue is, to me, nothing else about the chair's style says "I'm fun" but it is a nice chair!

I agree but that is exactly why I think it would be fun ... unexpected fun.

I had a handbag problem - long story. I tried to just buy a new one but couldn’t find a similar one and this one is functionally perfect. I bought an adhesive patch at a craft store. It didn’t stick for long without an application of super glue but it’s locked on now.

I think instead of a fabric ”bolero,” you would need to reupholster the part outlined in red. If you want to do that, I’ve got a challenge for you.

A friend of mine used to do hand painted textiles (very high end; to the trade only). She also did velvet that had been embossed using a wood-block and heat. She had a chair similar to yours with the back covered in embossed black velvet. How are your wood-block carving skills???

Regretfully, she is now gone and so is her husband. If you are interested in the details, I can contact her daughters and see what they know about her technique.

Etsy has some really fun leather patching materials...these are animal prints, but there are others. I could see that chair with the ends of the arms with something like this, kind of like a mitten shape....etsy link

eta: I wouldn't reupholster in fabric. The beauty of the chair is the softness of the curves that show because of the suppleness of the leather.

Well, the chair is still in my car and I am in the MN airport making the most of a long layover…I have ordered 2 options from Etsy and they’ll be waiting for me when I get home. I’ll see which option I like better in two weeks!
