They look similar to this stainless set I got from Wms. Sonoma long ago…also hefty. The others are Tupperware and clearly much lighter. They have handles that curve down to touch and balance, if needed. I use both but tend to grab the Tupperware more.

I still use the stainless ones my folks gave me when I was 9. I think they're Ecko. Those you got look hard to hold as well as being heavy. Do take them back or give them to someone who likes them. You shouldn't have to dislike your basic tools.

I had my set for 30+ years, from when I first set up house. The handle finally snapped. I'll see what they have at the store when I go to do some comparison. No plastic -- has to be stainless.

$50 is ridiculous for measuring cups, I told myself. So I ordered a $17 set by Cuisinart, figured it was a decent name, gotta be ok. Hate them. Aside from being sharp and flinsy feeling, the sizes are hard to read. (Not that it should be difficult to differentiate just based on look and feel, but still.) So I went to Crate & Barrel to splurge on All-Clad, ended up preferring C&B’s own line. Still spendy but they make me happy and they’ll hopefully outlive me. Half a point off for the spoon handles coming up higher than the edge of the spoon bowl.

My very favourite dry measuring cups are plastic, but I love them because they're diamond-shaped, not round. They are so much easier to pour from - it sound silly, but I found it makes a difference. Now I can't remember where I bought them or who makes them, so I'll be out of luck when they break (and I'm sure they're soon to do - mine are about 8-10 years old).

My wet measuring cups are also angled, not round - mine are the silicone ones from Lee Valley that are triangular in shape for the same reason of easy pouring.

You got me at the $50.

Home Goods has had the All Clad measuring cups and spoons from time to time at a great price. I picked up a set for my second home. Keep your eye out.. I have had a set in my primary house from WS for many years.

They are nice, but I think if you have reservations about them , paticularly with comfort or function, at $50 I'd return them.

I have 2 sets of tupperware types , from the year one. The only issue is that the labels ae worn off so unless I have them all in front of me, I cannot necessarily discern 1/3 from 1/4.

I think those ones Pillog shared from the river sitel look iworthwhile. ( have to stare at the handle a few times to decide).

Re measuring spons, my daughter has a magnetized set so it keeps them nicely together.( I wonder if the cups would be too strong be practicial.)

I have a metal set, but the measurements are written inside the cup....it's VERY hard to read. I like the $50 set YOU purchased better.

I have an old set of stainless steel ones from Amco. They feel nice in my hand, and, most important, the handles are flat, so that when I am leveling flour, the blade of my knife can go straight across. I would recommend them, albeit with the fear that new ones are probably not as well-made. I just looked on the Amco site, and they cost $16 for the set. Recently, I bought a set of OXO ones. Sometimes you need to measure dry and wet ingredients (think grated carrots for cake), and I was running into trouble having only one set. They are fine, but I don't love them the way I love my old ones.

I have an old stainless set like what my Mom uses. I searched forever trying to find them to purchase, (pre interweb days.) I FINALLY found a set at an estate sale!

I also have an old set of Tupperware measuring cups, those things last forever. I also have a cheap Ecko set of stainless steel with rubber covering on the handles. They are OK but the covering is coming off.

$50? Yeah, I'd have to love them for that money but I spent more than that on a set of Jenaluca cookie scoops about 10 years ago or so and unlike the cheaper ones, these have a life time warranty and have scooped thousands of cookies, meatballs, muffin batter, cupcakes, etc. and still look and function like they did when they were new.

Sometimes it pays to buy the better tool.

I told my son in law (the mechanic) that kitchen tools are like garage tools. There are times when you need Snap On and times when Harbor Freight will do!

For keeping together, as Salonva mentioned, the set I linked comes with a "small connecting ring" for the holes in the handles. I daresay the ring is very useful in the product stream, but mine came with a long ball chain, maybe a foot, which is very practical if you're storing them in the mixer bowl or a deep jumble drawer. Mine are now in a shallow utensil drawer, so I took it off. Easily gotten at a hardware store if you want it (as well as the same A place as the cups).

The SS set I've had for many years now, I picked up @ Dollar Tree, of all places. They're pretty sturdy and have a little spout so can be used for both dry and liquid measuring. They have alt. measurement markings inside as well. The handles aren't solid - they look like this:

We have a 5 piece set of the All clad stainless cups and matching spoons. We also have a tupperware set. Had them both for at least 2.5 decades. Not sure how much she paid for the All Clad but I believe she bought them when she was working at the place where she bought them so got a 40% discount.

I have the Williams Sonoma stainess set, but I think the measurements are small. They are definitely smaller than my old sets. I haven't actually tried to figure it out with the scales to see because I don't cook anything that requires such accurate measuring. Today I bought this set, because I thought I could leave it on the countertop if I wanted, and can easily measure something, especially for serving sizes of certain foods that I'm used to eyeballing, but sometimes want to make sure I'm not overindulging.

I also have a Tupperware set, purchased at a Tupperware party a co-worker hosted, probably back in 1990. I loved that set because they had a 2/3 and 3/4 cup measures. Recently the cup measure disappeared. It's just my husband and me at home now, so I am stumped about where it went. Anyway, I'm using this opportunity to search for a new set and appreciate all the suggestions. The Made In ones are pretty, but I agree the handles may be too short.

Chloe, I decided to buy a new Tupperware set but they are sold out on their web site. I think I'll see if anyone local is selling them or check eBay.
