If the posts are in good condition do not replace them. They are period correct for your house and also Cool Beans.

The front porch half wall should be the same color as the siding.

Another option for the columns would be to leave them and box them in white boards - we did this on a ranch house years ago, took a handy man 2 days and cleaned up the facade a bit (easy to reverse if desired down the road)

What is the front porch wall made out of? Did someone paint brick???

I like the columns/posts. They are a nice detail replacing them with square columns will make your house more generic. I like the look of muted turquoise shades with a medium gray house or a white house.

Go with the cedar posts. Can the side foundations be made smooth like some of the suggested photos? That will also help update the house.
The last blue color is really nice. Don’t go too dark on a small house. That blue is a great shade.

I think Sage Green might be amazing.. Maybe build up the trim a little to create some depth. I know keeping that wall is not easy. If you could remove it that would be great but that is expensive. Of course check out the street. What other colors do you seed? What direction does your home face? Lighting is so important and you want to use that to your advantage.

this would be great just columns but your house sits too high and could be a danger. You would need the small wall to keep people safer.

Yeah removing the wall...while I would LOVE to do it.....isn't in the cards. I don't know what they were thinking?

I do agree that the current wrought iron are period correct for your house I also think wood columns would be a good addition to the house. It might be an improvement also to replace those solid walls with railings. Those look as though they might have been added on at some point.

WIsh that front wall was in the budget....feels like it was added and maybe they were thinking about making it an all season porch which I am not interested in doing. I like to sit outside. I can't even imagine how much it would be to take it down. It feels like it was built to withstand an apocolypse.

I like the black wrought iron, but the cedar columns work too and it'd be a nice change. I'd just build that over the existing wrought iron columns, so you could always change it back at some point. Good call on whoever suggested making the stucco the same color as the siding.

Older homes -- this one is from 1922, often had this type of porch. I'd stick with painted posts if you decide to change them. The cedar ones look like you are wanting the house to be something it's not.

I suppose the stucco/cement was less expensive than brick back in the day??? Having that detail would be an upgrade. The original owner splurged on those iron columns and railing. The decision is to celebrate the original or bring this home into modern times. I would go for modern and try the cedar columns but mine would be a bit beefier than you showed.
