Halifax Public Gardens

We visited the wonderful Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island a couple of weeks ago. And of course while there I sought out some public and private gardens.

Probably the highlight was getting a guided tour of the Victorian era (established in 1867) and Victorian inspired, Halifax Public Gardens, located conveniently in downtown Halifax.

This summer, unlike last, has had lots more rainfall and so everything was lush and healthy.

There is an extensive dahlia garden, multiple gardens of wonderful annuals, stately exemplar tree specimens etc.

I was impressed with the size of several of the groupings of rhodendrons. I have seem similarly in BC, on our West Coast but I was a little bit surprised to see it here.

(For size perspective you can see the bench on the right edge of the picture)

It must be spectacular in June when in full bloom.

I bet there are a few Houzz member who have seen the HPG in person. In any event I highly recommend a visit when you are in Nova Scotia.
