last modified: last month

hello, is this wall art too big for my entryway ?? I like this wall art and i follow the rules for the size but for years I had a much smaller canvas—even too small—so looking at this one on the wall, I find it very large and beautiful at the same time. thank you for your help

I think the art is nice and size is fine. For another look - you could change the pillow cover to black, maybe velvet.

Thank you sooo much for your response, yes the pillow color was not a final choice… ☺️

    Love it! Perfect.

The art looks great. I like it better lowered a couple inches so the top of the art frame is level with the top of the door frame.

    And....Add a 3rd basket.

I like the art and also agree that it needs to come down a tad.

I would remove the pillow altogether. If you want to add texture/color, toss a small fuzzy throw on the back of the bench instead. I find pillows placed like that to just be in the way.

I really like it and think the size is great, you eye probably just needs to get used to it

You chose a lovely piece and it looks so good with the bench and floor. The art and floor tiles are actually amazing together.

    Chocolate brown pillow cover?

I really like your ideas, thanks, I’m going to try your suggestions. Regarding the height of the painting, I also think it should be lower. I’ll see if I can lower it a bit. ❤️

Does the bench actually get used or was it's purpose just to fill in that corner? If it doesn't get used, how about removing it and letting the art own that wall? You could lower the art some to have it fill that area.

Yes, we use it every day, with the kids and also for the storage in the seat. But that idea certainly would have been great. Thank you.

I wouldn't lower it. You have higher ceilings, so don't make a horizontal line around the room at the 6'8" standard door height.

I would probably go a tiny bit higher! I don't follow any "rules" when hanging art, but strive for balance and for me a straight line around the room isn't balanced.

I too would hang the art a bit higher. A larger rug would give a size contrast with the art. A textured seat cushion or pillow would add interest.

Great suggestion about the rug and the cushion for the seat! Regarding the rug, would it need to go under the bench? If I go with a larger one, it would extend under the bench and would no longer be centered with it.

As for the height, opinions seem to be divided... I’ve tried both higher and lower. When I placed it higher, I felt like the artwork was floating on its own and was no longer anchored to the bench. See the picture. What do you think ?

Thank you again for all your suggestions. They are truly very much appreciated!

I don’t think the artwork is too large. Its proportions work well with the bench and the height of the wall, and it gives the entry the presence that the smaller canvas was probably missing. It may only feel oversized because your eye was accustomed to seeing a much smaller piece there. I would live with it for a while before changing anything.

I also like how its soft colors work with the wood bench and the classic architectural details. The entry already has a lovely balance between traditional character and a cleaner, more current look.

I recently made a video about five timeless pieces inspired by centuries of beautiful interiors. What surprised me was how naturally these very different pieces can work in modern homes without making them feel old-fashioned. You may find an unexpected idea for your entryway or another room.
