Cabinet Edging Issue

Good evening! I am at a loss as to how to handle the following issue. Our home was built with very basic oak (presumably laminate) cabinets. All are in great shape, except I noted one day that the edge of the cabinet nearest the side of the sink we use most often, directly in line with the side of the kitchen window that opens, and very near the coffee maker, is starting to appear like in the picture. What can I do short with this? It is literally the only place doign this and I figure it's because of the repeated exposure to moisture/humidity. I am thinking it needs some sort of edge guard or waterproof protector, but don't know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd look for a piece of trim, 3/4" x 1/4" and not an outside corner. The dimensions are not critical as long as the trim is big enough to cover the damage on the side.

You will need to remove the rough part on the cabinet and probably glue (super glue) the trim in place.

Do you have a neighbor with tools that might help with cutting to fit?

Also note what I'm guessing is a paper towel holder -- how it's rusty on the bottom.

And any fix is really just cosmetic. The cabinets are not going to come apart.

I would apply 2 coats of near matching paint to damaged edge then install prefinished outside corner trim to cover panted area plus a matching piece on oppisite side.

The steam/heat from the coffee maker is your source for the damage.

I agree with chispa. Move your coffee pot to another location, with no cabinets above it, because, it will only get worse, if you leave it there.

We also had that happening — and we don’t do coffee. It was from hanging the dish towel on a hook beside the side of the cabinet.

Thanks, it I already know the coffeemaker is likely a major culprit. i moved it away from the edge area, but its the fix I need to make. i will invesrigate the prefinished outside corner trim idea. amy other ideas are welcomed.
