lFill the space with the rug. Larger is better so when the chairs are out they are still ON the rug.

Just need 6" of floor space where it meets the wall trim.

There needs to be enough carpet behind the chairs so you can push them all the way out and not scratch your floors.

The 7'10" round rug is useless.

Thank you so much for the responses! Do you think the 9’2” rug is too large for the room? I feel like I’m covering all of my beautiful flooring with the larger rug but also…I’m sure a too small rug is more noticeable than having a lot of flooring covered. Thanks

Well, you could just put those adhesive felt pads on your chair legs and not use a rug.

Just make sure you inspect the felt pads regularly and replace as needed.

I have a rug in my formal dining room, but don't have one under the table in my breakfast area, which has the same engineered wood floors.

^^^agree, if you don't want to cover the flooring you love, there is no rule that says you must have a rug.

Guess I never considered not using a rug because the room looks unfinished to me without it. Appreciate the responses and I’ll definitely rethink this.

I actually never use rugs in DRs and IMO you need 3' all the way around past the edge of the table to make sure chairs stay on the rug but really moving chairs in an out on a rug is a PITA
