Foyer suggestions

Hello! I am in the process of furnishing my foyer and wondered if anyone had thoughts to share.

Foyer is 7’ wide and 11’ long with 10’ ceilings. Dbl doors are 60” w x 80” h (SW Urbane Bronze). I’m wanting to stay in a modern organic color tone/design.

The dining room, which is also not furnished fully, is right off foyer and I am including a pic with that view.

I am loving the Jofran Carrington Bisque Breakfront cabinet that I saw at a local boutique yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ll include a pic- dimensions are 60” w x 15” d x 36” h. Should I go for it? I feel like this area needs something substantial but not too heavy and not sure about color. I’m thinking the glass front may help remove any heaviness that a solid cabinet might provide. I’ve looked at many console tables and everything seems to not grab me.

I want a large piece of art above cabinet and an interesting lamp and a few accessories on the top.
Thank you in advance

I'd wait on the cabinet right now. It will wait for you. Starting with the foyer: consider a semi flush chandelier instead of the recessed light. There is a gal on instagram who suggests "working with what you have", rather than starting over. She shows a "tired" (I use that word instead of "dated")and it is much like your tones. She added a jute rug with a black border and a black hall table, mirror. Looks fantastic! I'm going to look and see if I can find the photo. I found her on instagram. It's worth a look for inspiration.mouredesignstudio

if you can't stop thinking about it, I am guessing you should get it.

Although not a choice I'd made, I would center whatever you land on in the dining room opening, (looks like centered on the electrical outlet) make sure you can open the door easily.

You will want it to look attractive from the dining room, because that is where most people will admire it from.

a large area rug rather than just a door mat at the door.

Regardless of the exterior color of the front door, How about painting the interior of the door the same color as the wall color in the foyer?

What are you walking into besides the dining room? Do you have a closet for coats?

You love what you love. There's nothing "modern" about the cabinet, at five feet it is a bit short for an 11" wall, and the glass begs discipline and tidiness for whatever is stored.

Do you NEED storage? Have no mudroom?

Don't love the cabinet style, but we have no idea how you decorated or plan to decorate the rest of the space. I would also not do a glass front unless you already own things you can display there, which realistically will only be seen by the 2-3 people sitting on the far side of the table facing the foyer.

I think it could feel undersized for the space - tape it out and see what you think

If you must have that ornate cabinet, you should buy it.
Seems reminiscent of "American Idol" and requires a lot of upkeep.
Have to choose displayable items for interior, have to keep glass smudge free, have to dust those fiddly cross pieces.
A slim sleek piece may look better there, but your place, your pick.
    Do show your update.

Is it the left door that opens for everyday use? It would have been best to have the right door be the main door, swinging to the short wall, that will have nothing there. Having to leave space on the left for the door swing, messes with the symmetry of that foyer wall, when you try to use it as your main design wall.

You'll have to get a shorter console to allow for the door swing, but you could visually fill the space on either side of the console with more art, to balance that wall.

These show the idea of expanding the wider overall vignette so that it fills the wall, when you have to use a shorter console.

I am not a keen on your cabinet. Even you have nice sise of your foyer, it is too wide for space. Look for more shallow one.

I also feel it is a little too thick for what is essentially a hallway.

Some of the samples above with very large pieces of art over a slim credenza are very nice.

Depending on your climate… this may be very useful to hide coats…..rain gear…,other items you take when you go out..but don’t want to carry a long way to get or store elsewhere

It can also be a place for guests to use more conveniently…to stay at a reasonable size you may want to only hang seasonal pieces…while keeping off season gear elsewhere

A rug all along a potentially slippery hallway ….is a practical as well as pretty addition
