Halloween

It's going pretty well tonight. Just had one kid ask me if I had Snickers. I asked if that was her favorite, she said, "Naw, it's for my dad."

I have M&Ms, dumdums, Reeses pumpkins and Milky Way,

We get no kids here in the sticks. I was going to go to a party but it is outdoors and it's raining so I'm staying home. It sucks that I'll have to eat all of the candy myself.

We’ve had a few, almost two hours in. One cute party, the girls (about 5 or 6 yrs old) took chips, and the toddler brother reached for one thing, then Mommy’s hand guided him to HER choice! LOL, sister!

It’s a nice evening, and a Saturday. When I went to get the mail, a neighbor from around the corner was out with the dog, we agreed that both of us being on the side without sidewalk reduces our doorbell rings.

About how much do households spend for Trick or Treater candy?

    $100? $50? $200?

We live on far side of moon. No T or T-ers, no candy expense.

Trick or treating is pretty much a non-event here. Mostly rural properties surrounded by woods and no street lights! The downtown area does have a big community event with all the shops handing out goodies for the kids. And pets also if in costume :)) All the shopkeepers dressed in costumes as well.

I do have brand new neighbors (less than a month) with 2 little girls so I have some candy for them but I doubt I'll see many others.

I spent about $65. Ridiculous but I hate when I dont have enough. If there are any leftovers, I give them to the library and they put them out for the patrons. Or else I eat it myself

About $20 here, and that's for just 2 reg size bags of Kitkats and Rice Krispies squares. Like Gardengal we'll have just 2 youngsters from next door, I'll consume the rest but it's good to be prepared for the unexpected gobblins.

No one yet. Just going on 4:30 here with rain expected. We have Snickers but don’t expect much activity. T or T-ing has really dwindled here in the last few years.

petalique, I got 3 bags of Snickers (18.71 oz. each) from Amazon for $9.66 each.

No kids here. Semi-rural, dirt road, acreage -- nobody down the road gives out candy. There is usually a mob of kids up the road in town though.

No kids here. So we treat ourselves and go out to eat. Tried a new italian restaurant...it was good and we each brought 2 meals worth in leftovers!

8 goblins here so far. DH guessed we would get 12...55 minutes left. We spent under $20 on candy.

Out of 250 pieces of candy I have about 25 left. I was getting tired so I turned out the lights. So fun. Tomorrow I pick candy wrappers off the lawn!

I missed our neighborhood parade today but I heard it was well attended. I left out a basket with 2 $23 Costco bags of candy in them, son came home and said it was empty. Most years I splurge on full sized candy and that can add up well over $100, but with not being there to control distribution I went the cheaper route.

So it sounds like you people live in normal places. For some stupid reason, here in South Central PA, Halloween is always on a Thursday. People who move here from other states ask why. Nobody knows, but I've lived here since 1971, and it's always been Thursdays.

Ours just ended. I bought about $90 worth of candy. I was surprised it was so expensive. We got between 150-200 kids. I do have candy left and I ate some while handing it out.

I didn't know how Lacey would react since I didn't have her last Halloween. She is shy with people and I thought it might be too much for her. But she sat on my bench, covered with my sweatshirt and watched all the trick or treaters come. It was wonderful.

Sounds like fun. You folks are good sports.

As a kid I used to like Halloween okay — the trick or treating, door visiting part. I did not enjoy scratching my head trying to come up w a costume from scratch, and our mother was only just so patient at having us beg for sheet$ and recruit her to sew getups for us.

We lived in a rural village and a lot of walking, flashlights not always available. In those days, a Hershey bar or Life Savers were a nickle each, but it was not a wealthy village at all and even in those times few household gave a 5 or 10 cent piece of candy. I really hated the apples. meh.

Too many trunk or treats and paid for bouncy house events and the like have ended most door to door trick or treating here. . No one comes to the door anymore so as of last year we gave up on trying. I miss seeing all the little kids (and even big ones) come to the door in their costumes.

Halloween is alive and well in rural USA. We live in a small town in safe, well-lit neighborhood with lots of Trick/Treaters. I had just over 200 kids and ran out of candy (about $80) and turned off my lights before 8 pm.

Kids were well behaved and very polite; most had parents waiting in the street. There were golf carts full of families, side-by-sides, and one 4-wheeler pulling a small flatbed trailer with hay bales for kids to sit on. It stopped every block or so and kids jumped off to ring doorbells.

I saw only one Dolly Parton (adorable) and one clever middle schooler in a fullbody spiderman costume who was crouched realistically right in front of my door when I opened it. Startling, but cute.

In Canada in our neck of the woods, we had very few trick or treaters. Lots of goodies left over, and a neighbor came over and gave us some of her treats too! We will have to look for somewhere to donate/give them away.

What a bust! We had the 50-pack box of chips, and gave out less than half of that. 28 snack-size bars, gave out probably a dozen. Well, that just means I have plenty to drop off.

I was really surpised we didn’t have more. Even though ours isn’t the most convenient spot, on a nice Saturday I’d have expected more kids. But the ones who came were cute and sweet, and polite.

My cul d Sac had 18 Trick R Treaters. I handed out about 7.00 worth of baggies with lollipops and Hershey minis or Oreo packs. The subdivison about 1/2 mile away reoported 300 Trick R Treaters!

I was Jiminy Cricket back in the 60's. My mom made the costumes. My brother was Zorro and the other two kids were neighbors. Fun times.

No trick-or-treaters here - we're in a condo complex with very few kids.

Nice to know it's still done the old fashioned way in other places 🙂

We had a Halloween event at the rec center on Thursday and the playcamp kids had a blast - bounce houses/slides, candy, games, a haunted maze, etc.

In the end we had 16 kids come to our door. That is double last year. We live in a neighborhood that has no sidewalks and all the lots are 2acres or so. Many of the people out here don't give out candy so the incentive to walk the neighborhood is low..plus we don't have that many kids living here compared to years ago. It was a nice evening and no school tomorrow so the older kids were venturing out too. It was great to have some life in the neighborhood!!! I used to give out full sized Reeces pumpkins but they have become impossible to find and super expensive. I also realized parents when dolling out candy this week would probably appreciate the kids get smaller so we giave out three of the pumpkins packaged for Halloween,

Sadly, we don't get any Trick-or-Treaters here. We used to, in our other home in another town. I loved it! It was great to interact with the kids and they were so sweet (even the teenagers, whom I welcomed). Now we live at the end of a dead-end street with little lighting. Sad. I miss it.

We had 5 groups with 4 of them being fairly large groups. We have Snickers left, much to DH’s delight. It was raining (lightly) and many of the homes in our neighborhood are set back from the street a bit creating more walking. The `homes are well lit but no street lights. Our DD said they had 325 kids.
