KItchen Installation Day 4

yesterday
last modified: 19 hours ago

In process! The walnut counters are acclimating on top of the granite that will be removed tomorrow when the wood is installed. Right now with no doors it looks like an old post office🙂

Tomorrow the cabinets will be finished and the island and bar tops installed. After that, the brick backsplash, then the cooktop, and light, then the touch up wall and trim painting.

Yes, i decided to put a hanging light over the island because I felt the room needed a touch of black. I found a chandelier that has a black metal shade and polished nickel hardware and chain:

Seven years ago I had the ”island lights” pendants removed and have enjoyed the way it made the ceilings feel higher. Now that we have cabinets to the ceiling and they now look even taller, that is no longer a concern. (Our ceilings are only 9 ft.)

Update tomorrow!

An old post office look is not necessarily a bad thing! Those counters are going to be the bomb!

The perimeter counters/ work surfaces are Deckton porcelain in very light gray/ beige. The brick backsplash grout is the same color as the cabinets.

    I would love a post office-y kitchen DLM 😁

    And yes—I’m beyond excited!

The cabinet color is Benjamin Moore Senora Gray, Lizzie, but the name is misleading as it is a very warm color, almost a latte hue.

Thank you all! I was SO nervous about designing this all myself. Kitchen surfaces and fitted units are not something you want to get wrong. 😳

The spigot for our instant hot water finally arrived today and will go in tomorrow. We’ve been waiting for it since the first week of September with delay after delay. There are very few mfgs of polished nickel specialty spouts so we had no choice but to wait.

I’m also excited that my two new closet shelves will be available to pick up from CC next week. I have so much fall/winter stuff that has to be folded and flat that I took down a hanging rod and will have two new large shelves for all the knitwear. Come summer I will store those clothes and shelves and restore the rod for hanging.

The big reno projects have me thinking about the small ones that have a disproportionately large impact on daily life. When we moved the lantern (over the table) in the living room I had them take out wall controls for the house wide speaker system. We don’t use it because we have Sonos in every room and that’s one less visual distraction on the wall.

Looks great. Your floors are what I'd like to change ours to if I can get DH on board. He saw some unstained and wanted that. We were looking for upstairs bedrooms, and that would be fine up there, but not with the floors we have downstairs, so everything stalled.

Love it! The walnut and cabinet color are perfect roommates. :-) You've done a great job designing this.

The big reno projects have me thinking about the small ones that have a disproportionately large impact on daily life. This, this, this. I've made a few changes lately in anticipation of a kitchen remodel, including installing outlets in a small pantry. I won't need them just yet, but the pantry is getting an overhaul now.
