curb appeal

How do I increase the curb appeal of this house? The garage door needs changing. Everything is too tiny! I think I will add a large walkway running to the front door and increase the size of the porch to extend the width of the house. Also would like to add craftsman details like new house numbers and sconces. Color suggestions are welcome! thanks

Removing the overgrown tree would be a good start.

The tree is misplaced but may be necessary. This looks like an arid area. A new garage door would do wonders since it is the stand out here. I agree that an 18 inch craftman's style overhang over the garage door would look great. I cannot see the front door. You need to lead one visually to the front door with hardscape or plantings and then add a colorful front door. Architectural details like house numbers, mailboxes, planters, light fixtures in the craftman style would only enhance the look.

I think submitting this post in "Design Dilemma" may produce a lot more suggestions/advice for you. This section is typically for finished projects displaying their B&A shots. Hope that helps. :)
(But, perhaps a small retaining wall to help level out the yard. Allow for better landscaping, planter boxes...etc. and help keep it all contained)

I agree that the tree should be removed. The grass area can be reduced in size allowing for more of an extended front porch in front of the livingroom window and covered with an open wooden trellis or shade patio with slats. This house could use color whether plants or paint. A nice walkway leading from the curb up to the front door with lighting for the evening darkness.. The driveway could use some treatment perhaps brick ribbons. Trash cans should be hidden from view. I would also consider lighting on the front of the garage. Not sure what is beneath the small window to the right of the door (planter/concrete) the tree hides the house.

New landscaping could completely transform the yard and front of the house. I would remove the white picket border and suggest you add some bright colors in your plant choices to make the yard standout. You'll want to find perennials that bloom from spring to summer. The driveway suggestion is also a good one.

You may want to do some cool looking decorative panels, even wood grain the garage door.
I have done many of these things in the past it really add character. The last picture is a wood grain finish i did.
