Concrete ceilings

I live in SW Florida and it sure looks like mold! Who would decorate a room with the ceiling and maybe walls. Etc needing to be totally replaced?

Thanks, very interesting to read all your comments! The concrete ceiling is a loft feature if you are familiar with loft concepts. Most owners do not want their ceilings concealed and like it open, sometimes even showing the piping which gives it an industrial look. This interior design concept is very popular in Montreal lofts and especially in Old Montreal.
Actually, this is Montreal's biggest industrial complex which has been transformed into lofts and it was such a pleasure to design this loft concept from scratch to finish! Hope this answers your questions.

what is the wallpaper?

I'm still confused….I get that the ceiling is not concealed, and I understand the concept of that look, but is it moldy? It looks exactly like mold. Is it just a design that looks like mold, or actual mold?

Hello Gina, no it is not mold but just the way the concrete looks which people either love or not. As mentioned above, this industrial building was transformed into condos, therefore the ceilings were retained in their original state. My client loved the effect and is the main reason why she decided to buy this condo. Hope you are now less confused...

Linda, if I may, it's kind of like people using in their design reclaimed barn wood. It's old, it's weathered and has character and shows signs of a previous life. People often have refurbished, updated homes/furnishings or buildings where they leave that one item from the past, in this case the ceiling, that reminds us of it's history. It could be barn wood, tin ceiling, metal corrugated siding, old brick chimney minus the fireplace, old iron gate/fence, etc. Most of these items can be used to accent cottage, traditional, or even contemporary rooms/homes. How did I do, Linda? :)
