Island cabinets

I am in a bind and looking for some advice. The person who designed my island made it too wide (nothing I can do about that now long story) It needed to be a maximum of 40 inches wide, including overhang for casual seating. There is also a table in the room so it is more seating for kids homework, making cookies and the occasional adult wine drinker.
The issue is that the desginer put in a 24 inch sink base and 24 inch wide dishwasher, with 2 30 wide, 12 inch deep cabinets in back of it. This brings me to 36 inches with no seating (again nothing I can do about that the cabinets are sitting in my kithcen) I am trying to figure out how to deal with this without eating the cabinets and maybe gaining some storage.
Here are my options as I see them:
put 1 - 30 inch cabinet in teh middle of the far side of the island and put a 14x14 inch square stool on either side. (I think that I like this best but not sure if it would look wierd)
put 1-30 inch cabinet on one end of the far side and put 2 small stools next to it.
Lose the cabinets all together
if they could cut the cabient down to 24 (I have 2 12 inch replacement doors that were going to be used for trim I think that would be best, but have to talk to my contractor today.
I am meeting with contractor today but wondered if anyone else had some thoughts.
Greatly apprecaiate any constructive feedback!!
