Here is the countertop. Previous owners paid 3k for this horribly beige corian thus, I'm meeting some resistance from the hubby about replacing it. I'm in love with Titanium but I'm not sure if it works with the counter.
I liked the titanium in the first pic, but not so much the second...choice of fog mist was a compromise.
Hmmm, sounds like I need to try more samples.
I agree..I would like to see a few more samples as well.

Really need a HUGE closeup pic of the counter ....
I like the titanium, versus matching the corian, it seems to contrast it and divert some attention from it. At least from the photos...
There is a slight blue cast to this countertop pic. No complex colors here, just yellow-beige with brown and white flecks.

Edgecomb grey makes the counter appear less busy and gets my vote.

Tell the PO's you'll sell them back the countertop for $1500...have them haul it away!! :0)
Then get the one you want. I hate all the beige stone stuff you see everywhere. It is NOT a neutral color by any means.

Oh...and I do love the green paint! Great color for a kitchen.

This is funny because I just moved out of a house with the same countertops and same cabinets I think too. The previous owners had JUST redone the kitchen so I failed in convincing my hubby to redo it (it's ok, I convinced him to upgrade the main bath). Anyway, the paint color on the walls was very similar to the edgecomb gray (bit more gray) and although it complimented the counters well I just found it to be too dark with just the one window in the kitchen. If there's enough light in there that'd be the color I'd chose. I agree that maybe more samples is a good idea.
I like the first one best but with the darker cabinets I think Fog Mist is the way to go.
My vote is edgecomb gray or titanium. The fog mist looks pinkish to me? Anyways, that's why it does not get my vote.

Hi Nicola -- I like the Titanium, at least in its tone in the first photo. But I would definitely make it a bit deeper shade. Paint the woodwork bright white, and perhaps add more lighting, if you are able. The room will definitely look classier, in my opinion, with nicely contrasting walls to set off the golden oak and creamy countertops.

Another idea... perhaps you and hub could agree to remove the existing bit of backsplash material and replace it with a fully tiled splash. ...maybe simple white subway tile, and still paint the rest of the room a light-medium slate grey.

    Best Wishes! Mark

Bungalowmo, you mean the green Titanium or the green window sill. Oh how I wish I could sell the counters. It just blows my mind that someone would spend 3k for 35 sq ft of "blah".
Yes, the Fog Mist has a touch of pink which is why I'm not sold on it.
I'm finding edgecomb gray to be very dark in here despite it being light and bright in my sunroom. There are 2 windows in here- one north facing and the other west facing.
Have you looked at SW North Star? It may be too light but go one shade darker and I think it would work.
I haven't looked at North Star but SW First Star just came onto my radar.
Here are some pics from the sale listing. All that green half wall is slowly becoming BM Simple White.
Ohhh ok. Hmm. Do you want to stay away from the green? And are you redoing the floors or are they staying?
Replacing the floor is further down the road but if it were to stay, it really has no color friends. Cabinets are going white too. All the green is going white. For walls, I'm a huge fan of grays with green undertones. It's a question of if I can make gray-green work with the counter. Titanium is a fairly light gray-green.
Ohhh ok. I was trying to figure out the layout/colors what's staying and what's not. I had a really pretty gray at one time picked out but I will have to think on the color. I will say that if you're painting cabinets white then I think it can handle a darker color such as edgecomb in the room. Have you tried putting the colors next to the same white as your cabinets? Or is that what the second picture is above?
I really like the titanium in the second photo and I think it looks well with your counter tops.
I would stay away from beige and really break it up with color
  • 12 years ago
I'll choose fog mist also. It amazes me how difficult it is, to pick a paint color to match with exsisting countertops. I have uba tuba black granit countertops with the same yellow tones cabinets, although mine are maple. It's the same on my floor, trim and doors. This winter I will be painting my kitchen cabinets off white with with a mocha glaze. That yellow wood tone is now drowning my home in the 80's look. It seems as though gold tones are the only solution in matching colors. I like your countertops, they have a fresh look to them, and I love a fresh clean look in the kitchen. By the way your kitchen is beautiful. I think you'll also like the fog mist with your dark floors. Tan colors look rich, with white as long as they don't have the pink tones. Good luck.
How about Manchester Tan by BM. It has a hint of green in it and may look nice with your floors as well. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/manchestertan
  • 12 years ago
Out of the choices listed I think choice 1 or 3. 1 blends more but 3 give it contrast so it depends on what floats your boat. Good luck!
    Titanium
Go with your gut it's just paint and paint is an easy fix. Remember Valspar has the love your color guarantee that I believe runs through October so take advantage of their offer; check with Lowe's for details. That being said, I would go with Titanium.
Have you tried getting a large poster board of titanium painted on there? I haven't actually tried this but they say it helps seeing the color on a bigger scale. You could then see how it looks at different times of the day in different areas.

I keep looking at the titanium and it's my favorite of your choices. With that said, you are there and we're looking at screens so you are getting a true color versus our screen.
Lynsibee, the white in the second pic is what the cabinets will be.

I'm thrilled to get so much input. I'm going to pick up a couple more samples tomorrow.

I think what makes this difficult is that the counters and floor are distant upgrades. If I choose a gray-green, the upgrades will be based off of that. But we have a bathroom I'm dire need up upgrading so I can see the large ticket kitchen stuff being deferred indefinitely. I know the Pros would tell me that paint is the last thing you should think of, but I'm sick. I have a problem. I'm addicted to paint and color. But I also can't continue living with a puke green and beigy yellow kitchen.
Oh I agree, I broke the paint rule as well. Sometimes you have to paint it to make it work otherwise you end up hating it. /: That's how I was with my bedroom anyways. I wasn't excited about anything I bought to go in there because I hated the walls. So, we painted first accessorizing now.

The good news is that the colors you have picked out are very flexible. I think the Titanium works with the countertops. What is it that has you stumped about it?

I picked up 2 more samples today! I need your revised votes please. I included the view into our dining room just in case that changes your opinions. The dining room color wall color is SW Silverpointe.

    1. Edgecomb Gray (BM)
    2. Fog Mist (BM)
    3. Titanium (BM)
    4. Windfresh White (SW)
    5. First Star (SW)
    6. First Star - It looks similar to Silverpointe but it is a shade lighter on the color chart
    7. Titanium
    8. Fog Mist
    9. Windfresh White

Also would like to get thoughts on cabinet color. Do you think the two-tone look such as this could work with my cabinet layout? (To see the layout, see the bigger kitchen pix earlier in this thread).

    Thanks everyone!

Lynsibee - I think it is the counters that are getting in the middle of my decision making.
I've officially narrowed it down to Titanium (3 &7), First Star (5 & 6), and Windfresh White (4 &9). Any additional votes?
I like the two toned look and I think you can pull it off! You would just need to be careful that there is enough contrast with the wall color and the cabinet color. Titanium still has my vote. (:
I did read an article where the designer chose the darkest color on the paint strip for the cabinet color and then a medium-light color from the same strip as the wall color. That way there is contrast and they look good together.
    Fog mist!
Cream color cabinets and walls, cabinet handles oil rubbed bronze.like the Berkeley kitchen in the picture above
  • 12 years ago
    Titanium
    The answer is 6.
I vote for First Star 5&6
So I finally got on a computer and I am changing my vote to First Star!
Remember that gray is a neutral that goes with anything. I really like Titanium but now I think First Star is the way to go. I also think two tone cabinets would work well in your kitchen. I am re-freshening my cabinets in the near future and although I have a small galley kitchen I plan to paint the cabinets two tone; cream on top and probably grayish bottom. I'm sure I'll be asking for input from everyone when I get to that project.
Call me crazy but I'd do sth with a green and add some burgundy to match the gray/titanium. :-)
I mean I think you need to take bigger pics and go down to lowes etc and look at more options. :-)
I like numbers 3 and 5 best. I don't love the two tone kitchen cabinets, I think the white cabinets with the fresh paint will look great and the counters will blend right in.
Have you tried SW aesthetic white? It is a good neutral that looks different anywhere you use it.
    I like the Titanium (3, 5).

    3!
