Hi Christy, Does your title mean that you're thinking of using barnwood for a backsplash or that you have given up the idea? Are you planning to remove your existing cabinets? What kind of floor do you have (or are you replacing it)? Personally, unless the wood was well-sealed and protected, I don't think I would want barnwood as a backsplash, especially if you do a lot of cooking. I think an unsealed wood could be subject to staining from grease, oil, juice, etc. and would be difficult to clean. Having it sealed would make cleaning easier and provide more protection for a backsplash. I also would not put a wood backsplash behind a cooktop or stove. There are many options shown on Houzz for incorporating barnwood into a kitchen design and I have posted a few below. Cabinets, islands, ceilings, table tops, floors, and walls all provide good opportunities for incorporating barnwood either as an accent or as a main material. Search "barnwood" under "kitchens" on Houzz and there are many more examples.
