kitchen update--low budget

We are going to hire someone to paint these vintage 70's cabinets, purchase new stainless appliances, perhaps paint the countertop, and re-do the floors.
This room looks out on a modern/global/industrial great room (pics attached)...
I'm inclined to paint the cabinetry white or deep gray; countertops white, deep gray, or some pop of color (golden yellow or apple green or something in the orange family)....
Backsplash unclear...Microwave over stove...Floors either wood, dark slate, or white tile...
All suggestions welcomed!
