How to arrange sectional and chairs?

I will be buying a sectional to go with the two wood and leather chairs and I need to decide on a right or left hand ell for the sectional. The room is odd shaped as the house is a hexagon. To maximize the view, conversation and still be able to watch a movie on the TV, where would a sectional be best situated? Along the left wall and across the end wall, thus facing the kitchen and dining, creating a more open feel? (Both chairs fit only this way.) Or along the left wall and jutting out into the great room space, making a separation between the kitchen and living areas? (Only one chair would fit this way because the end wall is narrower than the center of the room.)My pics were taken at different times, thus the different furniture.

If you are married to the idea of a sectional, I would do it along the left and back wall so that it opens up to the room. However I also agree with the above poster that the room may work better with one sofa and the chairs. I actually like the arrangement you have now!

Oh darn Meg and Laurence, you are probably right. It's just that a sectional offers so much comfy seating, and I have a lot of family in the area. I may just have to settle for a sofa. I don't want the furniture to look crammed in there! This room is fun but just a little smaller than I would like. We look out on a beautiful river and want to keep the seating facing the windows. Thanks very much.

I have to agree with the last 2 comments. Nix the sectional. Float the couch facing the windows and parallel to the bar. Is the large piece for storage? It almost looks like its partially blocking the window.

The large piece is no longer in the room. It was part of cabinetry and a fake fireplace that was all along the wall and which has all been removed and used elsewhere. Even though it was nice cabinetry, it left no real room for seating.

Gloriaskdesigns, thank you for your thoughts. How would you place the chairs and the TV if the couch was parallel to the bar and not along the main wall?

I will also say definitely do not get a sectional. If you think you have problems arranging now, a sectional (or even a loveseat) will create more issues for you. Sofa and chairs is the way to go!

I think your space can handle a sofa and four chairs. Sofa on the long wall, chairs like you have them. Then, two more chairs floating. Modern swivels will allow conversation or tv watching.

Thank you Darzy. That's a good idea too.

rmezzetta, hi I thought the low cabinets were staying. I would have place the tv on top of one of those. Like Darzy's comment on 4 chairs. Love the ones pictured. With 4 chairs I would float the couch in front of the windows on the same side as dining furniture. If lower cabinets are not staying you could put console type table there and have small ottomans under for extra seating. I like the cabinets you own. Why not reuse them. Painted cabinetry is in. You could repurpose those with a bold color like sunflower yellow or teal.

Sectionals are not conducive to seating for guests (whether family or friend), in my opinion. If you have people coming over to visit then a sofa and those great chairs are a much better option. I think people like to sit in chairs to talk and have a drink while they visit. I have a deep seat sofa and my guests avoid it like the plague and most sectionals are deep seaters nowadays. Sectionals are for the family (that live in the house) to watch TV, put up their feet and lounge. I like gloriaskdesigns idea of adding two more chairs.

Thanks iwantit, Darzy, Laurence and gloriaskdesigns. I am now searching for a sofa! I really want to get this done so I can finish out the room, hang things on the wall and love my space. I so appreciate all your thoughts.

If you find one you like, share an "after!" Such a gorgeous room - good luck finding the sofa to make you feel like you've got your vision complete.
