Should we paint our brick house another color?

We are considering painting our brick house. What are the pros and cons of doing so. I have heard it is difficult to maintain long term.

As with all painting, proper preparation and materials help with maintenance. When I bought this house, all the brick was the red of the steps and everything else was chocolate brown. Used two color of Cabot solid stain. Brick took multiple coats. Stairs have hence been replaced with bluestone, but this pic gives you good idea of change.

The before isn't as bad as I was expecting, but I do like the after more.

Pwickizer, it was incredibly out of place for the setting...beach community on the water. Changed steps help with cohesion. Roof change will be final part of transformation...just fixed the leaks and had to save rest for next year.

Actually, I've logged back on to apologize for my thoughtless comment. You've obviously put a lot of thought and work into your home and it's lovely. I'm drawn to the "rustic" I guess, because of living in Michigan for years. It's too easy these days with a click of the keys to send out the negative. Please accept my apology and keep up the good work! :)

I agree...it would have been just right for a rustic / woodsy / northern setting. As is, it's southern and on the water. Needed to lighten to 1. Enjoy and 2. To bring into character with the rest of the homes in the community.
