I like the wall color and the direction you are heading. Drapes, more colorful pillows and pull your chairs in a bit closer and you are getting there :)

I like what you've got going on too! I'd like to see some of the coral/blue on the sofa as well. It could also look quite lovely to paint your tv stand the blue, a bit darker than your candlesticks on the right shelf.

You mentioned perhaps a new rug. Do you like this one?

I think a print fabric for window treatments and a few pillows that uses the colors you're working with would be a great way to tie it all together. Perhaps something in a fun retro style? Chazz Spina, and Amy Cali - good point regarding the rug. I know thats a design no-no, so no idea why I haven't pulled the rug further across the room.

So scared of drapes, because I don't want to detract from the light that the windows offer, but perhaps I just need to find the right ones.

I thought the art above the mantel was a little small. Love the chairs (where are they from) and pillows, totally agree on pulling the chairs in or getting a larger, patterned rug. I also love the idea of painting those bookshelves blue, tv stand might be able to stay since I know you must like natural since you mentioned rustic.

How about this for fabric? In terms of window coverings, you can always mount the curtain rods way on the outside so the curtains do not block the window/light/. That's what we did with our bedroom. It also helps if the fabric is on the lighter side. The curtains will keep your eye in so if you have great trees or views I would think twice about curtains maybe just go with faux roman shade. Here's another option for furniture placement. The painting is too small for over the fireplace so I suggest hanging the TV there instead. I know alot of people will disagree but It's small enough not to overpower the fireplace. I would turn the couch facing the fireplace with the two chairs where the window is. Keep the bookcases on the same wall but bring them closer together so they look like one bookcase. As for the little tv table, you could possibly put it between the two chairs or behind the couch with the baskets.

Yes the TV over the fireplace.. Check out Penny Mustard in Wisconsin..they have come up with a mirrored front where you can place a plasma behind it and when the tv is on it is viewed clearly. Everyone thinks its a mirror, but its actually the tv. Move the bookshelves and put sofa on that wall...and gallery the wall with art

Get thee to Home Depot and grab some of those 4" square carpet samples. Put one under each leg or corner of your heavy furniture UPSIDE DOWN so the soft part is touching the floor. Now you can slide your furniture easily and not scratch your floors.
