It depends, I think a good basic rule is for the hallway to be the same color as the main room it extends from, for example, the living room or kitchen. Whether the hall will be the same exact color, or a lighter or darker version of the main room's color might depend on how much light there is, for one thing. Deep, darker colors in a hallway or a room are brought to life with an abundance of light.
