Not sure about that but I recently used a Laquer spray for a shiny finish. I would mention; definately wear a mask and have extremely good ventilation the laquer smell took many days to wear off even though I actually painted it outside.

That is exactly right RE, I painted mine outside, temps were around 65 degrees at that time, let it set for several days outside. Still for a week maybe more after bringing it in I could smell the laquer. I loved the finish but not sure that I will do it again anytime soon.

It is illegal for homeowners to purchase Lacquer coatings, If you are in any state in the northeast United States. They are regulated by the Gov't and can ONLY be sold to a company that has the proper equipment and is "shop" applied. Meaning in one location and no other, ever. Anyone that wants a lacquer coating must fill out paperwork at the Paint store and they file it with the proper officials. This is all due to V.O.C regulations and the solvents that evaporate into the atmosphere as they dry.
You can get a pretty smooth mirror finish with a high gloss acrylic finish.... But it must be sprayed. preferably with a HVLP sprayer. Oil modified acrylics are another good option. Benjamin Moore is a great company to check out.
