White cabinets seem like they can always work, definitely done with the rest. Can you add "the color gray as a solution for all interiors and exteriors"?

Can you add stainless appliances? Are we all professional chefs? If so, why aren't entire kitchens stainless with a drain in the center? :-)

I actually like white kitchen cabinets. I dont think that is faddish... I think stainless steel appliances should be on the list because no one can say why people need to have that in their kitchens. I went with the first one because everything else is a personal choice and I feel people should be able to do what makes them happy. If you have chalkboard paint and you love it, why should someone else tell you it needs to go away?

I don't like "FAKE" anything in interior design - it dates quickly and is a waste of time, energy and money!

In retrospect I agree that stainless (which to me always looks stained) and the "graying of America" should have been choices and white cabinets could get a reprieve, for now. ;)

I too wish I could have picked more than one answer. I choose granite counters because we're thinking ahead to a kitchen remodel and I just don't understand all the fuss about granite! Can't spill wine on them, or cut a lemon, and make sure you wipe up drips immediately? Yes they're beautiful, but in my kitchen I can guarantee a wine spill not to mention I cook with acidic foods and will surely miss a drop of water. Now we also have to consider radon gas, maintenance and etching??? Ugh! With all this fuss, why do we constantly hear, ohhhhhhh it has granite counters!?!

The one thing that I didn't see on the list was marble bathrooms with aquarium showers. I'm so tired of seeing the look in magazines.

With you all the way! People just follow reality TV like sheep. I like it when people develop their own decorating style. It shows character and substance.

Most of these things to me just provide a neutral backdrop so I'm not particularly sick of any of them (generally fake hardwoods would not be my choice). Some granites I think were overdone and aren't particularly beautiful or interesting but there are plenty of work of art type stones out there. What I don't care for is a room that is so perfect and following all the trends and there is no individuality. We all know when we walk into a house and it screams pottery barn catalog.

You left out 'all of the above.' I don't own a TV, so can't really comment on the disgusting reality programming - which I regretfully have seen a time or 2. I don't understand why people enjoy watching people mentally and physically torturing each other or themselves? That's not entertainment in my aged book.

@mamadubbs I think you are confusing granite with marble. Granite is pretty indestructible. It's marble or travertine where you have to worry about acid etching or staining. I love it because each piece is unique but the idea that you *must* have granite or quartz is pretty old.

Yes, as others have said, this poll doesn't really work since you can't choose more than one option. I think it would be better as a dilemma than a poll.

The resale trend...seems like people are seeking advice on building from their realtor.

lol Brian. Not seeking advice. Seeking market stats on major changes and a short term hold. :) The stats are just one factor for the owner to make a decision. All the other factors come from other sources.

with regard to "fake wood" - I love the look of hardwood and had it throughout my last home. I have been kind of a snob about these things and since I sold flooring for several years, I can spot fakes pretty easily.

Even though it was a hard hardwood (brazilian cherry) I still had to constantly worry about scratches from my 2 large dogs and spilling water on it. We had an adjacent laundry room and more than once the washer leaked and water seeped under the wood. Luckily we were able to get it cleaned up and dried out quickly.

After we moved out, the valves from the refrigerator and the washer failed and the floor in the kitchen was ruined. We had to scramble to tile it before we could get it on the market.

Our new house has tile everywhere except the bedrooms which have high-quality laminate. Having the tile is such are relief. So easy to clean and worry free. The laminate is pretty bullet-proof. No scratches even after sliding heavy bedroom furniture over it and it is really beautiful.

I put an inexpensive wood-look tile in one of the bathrooms and love it. Everyone comments on how warm the room looks and they don't even realize it's tile until we point it out. Now that we are getting rid of all the ugly, cheap, chipped white faux-stone tile in the rest of the house and replacing it with wood-look tile. The good quality ones are pretty hard to tell from the real thing and honestly, most people wont even look hard enough to notice. I just can't deal with the maintenance of real wood after having tile for the last two years. So scoff if you like, but faux wood for me all the way.
