Help for my lounge room please

Hi, Just brought a property super keen to start decorating, however Hubby and I have come to a dilemma on how to position the lounge room without taking up too much space or not enough space it's 9x5 ft long we have a cabinet that's in the shape of a triangle however that's it. New beginnings new things :) so we're open to ideas

Hi. Congratulations on your new home. This should be fun.

Your pics don't show enough of the room -- only three corners, and the window positions are only hinted at. A rough sketch plan would also be useful because I for one can't tell which are the long walls.

And then ... how many of you will be using this room regularly? For TV watching, and what else? Will it need some form of heating installed? Do you plan to entertain here? Do you have pets and do they leap on sofas? Small children? What does your triangular corner cabinet look like -- what style, what colour wood, how tall? Could you post a pic of it?

And then and then ... your ideabook pics give an impression that you prefer a clean, modern style and like turquoise. Yes? Any other colours or styles you like?

Yes, a floor plan showing door / window openings is useful when doing furniture layout ideas.

Hi Rina,

I have uploaded a sketch, Thank you Magic Plan app. I might take the display cabinet out i had a think and I have grand plans for it else where. We were looking at a dark blue and beige/s to tie in with what we already have there. I just really liked the style of the blue ottoman that a all :)

Heating is not an issue here as it's a constant 30 degrees Celsius and yes we do have two fur balls and no kids

Thanks for all that, it really helps. I love your colour choices. Starting with layout -- not my strong point, so fingers crossed -- I think this could work. The green patch is a real, living plant. I note that not much light will come in through the window or front door, but it looks as though you have a good source of light from that large opening.

I like that anyone entering the house would see art on two walls and a big welcoming sofa across the room. The (low) corner unit I propose could have all your TV stuff hidden as well as being a place for glasses and other entertaining necessaries.

Looking forward to e-window-shopping for you, but must get on with my morning now, and it's a working day for me. So later, perhaps.

Did some shopping at Crate and Barrel, except for the shells which are from http://fineartamerica.com/art/all/blue/all?page=3. I don't mean to use both armchairs -- cover one, then the other, and you'll see they take the feeling in slightly different directions. And the shells may be way off for your taste but the colours are good. Patterned carpet to hide small paw marks until you have time to clean.

I did a bit more shopping -- new items, curtains and lamp, from Wayfair. Not sure about the squiggly lamp shape being to your taste but I was colour hunting ...

Here's some modern chairs and lighting that you get get at instylmodern.com. The space looks like there's a lot you can do with it.

I wanna stay away from shells trying for something unique like that cushion love the bit of burnt orange in it

Hi again. Cool. Dump the shells. I like that the cushion and the rug both have that burnt orange, which establishes it as belonging in the room, as it were. What kind of art do you like? I'm heading for a busy day but I'd love to help you in an art hunt. It's one of my favourite things to do.

I love that couch too, I'm daydreaming one in oatmeal for me ... but (a) chance would be a fine thing, and (b) I have a black doberman, and (c) I'm on another continent and I don't even want to think about the shipping costs (see a above). :-(
