Inside entryway - suggestions?

Would love a "wow" factor when you enter my house. It's a tight space to the left of the stairs. We have lots of wood and dark floors. Would love some suggestions for how to make the entry amazing.

I do not care for the family photo on that wall.

Try the mirror where the chest is now…leaning.

    Then a great area rug.

I think an awesome stair runner would go a long way to adding glamour to this area. Be sure to bring the runner right down to the hardwood floor at the bottom. A beautiful lighted wall sconce on the wall to the right of the stairs would be quite pretty. For a real 'wow' I'd use a modern wallpaper!

Ok here's the mirror where you suggested. Removed the photo. :) thoughts?

Where would you put the wallpaper?

Mirror doesn't fit well in either location. How you had it looked nice. You enjoy seeing the photo on a daily basis, I'm sure.

No, I don’t like it there. Bad suggestion, sorry. Maybe nothing there. Can the mirror go over the chest where the flowers are on the floor now?

I think I really like this idea and it would be the perfect size for the niche…plus, it relates to your railings…what I may not like about the other pieces you have is both are too heavy for the spot.

    What do you think?

A more colorful runner would help if you can afford to do that.

    Thanks for
The input! I swapped out the table. Moved a few things around. Do you like this table here? Could paint it a different color or even white?

    Stunning foyer components
Unique and statement stair runner, nothing on wall above stairs.
2 awesome sconces (one where family portrait is and the other at same height as 1st, on wall where vacuum is plugged in)
2 sweet round tables of correct size in square L of stair (where dresser is, and in corner where vacuum is)
Place dresser and picture and mirror somewhere else in home.

What about a chair and a small, round side table? I would love to see a patterned stair runner, in a bold colour. Lovely home.

Yes, the demilune table with the vase and other objects, but replace the mirror with a knockout original canvas that picks up some of the pink.

A great option for your entry way would be a great wall decal! They won't peel off your paint, are super easy to install, and will create a "WOW" factor without taking up space in your narrow room. You could choose a design or quote that fits the feel of your home. some examples of what you could use:

Maybe a saturated paint or patterned wallpaper on the walls I changed into a warm pink? The space could use a medium color. I have no suggestions on decorations, that's not really my thing. Just one thing, I think the 'pillar' left of the stairs should be empty.

One question, is there an overhead light fixture in the entryway?
Here are photos of the entire entry: chandelier, staircase to the left and right. Appreciate input from all of you!

Would remove the flowers and add a lamp. Beautiful family picture, but more suited for MBR/Den. How about a rug if not an issue of safety with kids
  • 12 years ago
How about a Christmas tree? Only during that season of course!

I'd stand at the bottom of the stairs and look at the pillar, wall, the table alcove, the staircase and the right hand side of the staircase, and imagine the whole area as one visual. Maybe this: great art piece for pillar ( as groveraxle shows), table as is, small statement lamp on the demilune, two other pieces of interest, large live plant at right hand bottom of stairs.

Thanks for the additional photos. The reason I asked was that the upper stair area looked a bit dark but that could just be the photo angles. Before seeing these I was going to suggest some ambient lighting sources but judging by the chandelier and the pot lights upstairs I think you have that covered up there. Perhaps an accent lamp near the base of the stairs could be added.

I agree with a rug, maybe a round one. I also agree with some bright colored artwork. The only thing with color in that area now is the flowers. I wouldn't paint the table. It looks nice because the wood is the same color as the steps. If you painted it white, it would just blend into the wall.

Can I ask that you take a picture of your floor at the top of the stairs & the railing area of the floor to the left? I'm sorry, its selfish reasons. We have a similar staircase with railing extending to the side like that & are putting in hardwood. Everything was carpet before so there's just subfloor there now. I am having trouble understanding what the top step/upstairs floor is supposed to look like. Thank you!

Thanks for all the great feedback. I've made some changes to the entry and thought id get your feedback. Added the glass vase on entry table. Chair to the right of stairs. And bought an art piece for left of stairs. It isn't hung yet as I'm still deliberating. Thoughts?

I like this much better. I'd hang the art, and then see if you don't want to hang a little simple something above the colored chair....maybe a small/mid size mirror in the dark wood as the table. The addition of the child on the stairs is a wonderful touch!!! :)
