We recently bought an apt in NYC that has old parquet flooring. While it's in good shape, it's not our style and we'd like to replace it with a prefinished engineered hardwood. Our contractor has given us the options of either floating it above the current floor, or glueing down to the current floor. Floating is the easiest, but I'm concerned people will be able to tell and mistake it for something that's not "real hardwood." I dont want it to hurt resale down the road. Does anyone have any experience with floating floors, and is there a way to minimize the hollow sound?
Also, the longest area we will be covering is a 36' long living room, with the planks going the long way. I've heard this might be too long of an area to float - any thoughts?
Thank you! This is such a high impact/expensive decision and I've done a ton of research but still cant seem to come to a comfortable solution.
